Juan Ponce De León claims Florida for Spain
Coming ashore on the Florida coast, near the present-day city of St. Augustine, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León claimed the territory for his nation's crown. De León is officially recognized as the first person to land on the coast and conduct a detailed exploration. Believing the peninsula to be an island, he named it La Florida, as the discovery was made during Easter Sunday, also known as Pascua Florida.

Nota Bene:
There were no reparations from Japan to U.S & Philippines for heinous War Crimes violations of the then accepted International Geneva Convention Rules.
