What would you do if you won?
By Kate Northrop
MARTINSVILLE, NJ — Every time you buy a lottery ticket, you're likely imagining the blissful "what if I win?" scenario, but let's say you DO win — are you really prepared to claim all that cash?
Lottery Post today announced the relaunch of its official YouTube channel. The very first published video features a topic that's relevant for new and seasoned players alike.
It's easy to imagine how easy life would get if you were to suddenly come across millions upon millions of dollars, but preparing to accept that cash and managing the newfound wealth are crucial aspects of winning that many players don't often consider.
WATCH: What happens when you win the lottery?
The channel's first video, "What happens when you win the lottery?," covers all the basic steps you need to know before claiming your jackpot prize. Our first recommendation? Take a deep breath and put that ticket in a safe place.
To see all of the steps we recommend, visit Lottery Post's official YouTube channel and be sure to tell us in the comments what you would do if you hit the jackpot.
1st thing I'm doing is changing my phone number and deleting my social media. Everyone will come out the woodwork trying to get a piece. People who treated you bad will suddenly pretend they been you're friend all along.
I would have said signed the ticket, but my hands would probably be too shaky to do so. I am going to definitely call my mum and let her know.
Just say no or hell no what's the problem
Do the same thing I'm doing now but much much much much more comfortably... paying bills early, not late, not on time but early... traveling having fun and watching my money grow....
I remember one of my law professors saying the first thing you should do is change your name before you claim. I guess you can change it back after you get the money.
LOL some people seem to have that problem. I don't know why they do either.
Don't know her name, but she does investment stories for ABC. Her advice to those hounds wanting money is to give them her tax accountant phone number. He automatically says NO!! ROFL.
Another great media production to help promote lottery post! Well done.
Enjoyed the overall suggestions. Sensible.
I'll skip paying the middleman. I get the concept of spread the wealth since so much is there to spread. Just can't live that way...sorry financial planners . I already got the foundation on how to handle funds. Now an estate lawyer - yes siree!.
I'm all about transparency so I'll claim openly. Three big jackpot winners reside in my town. None threatened or harmed.
Here's hoping though when lottery post has it's very own huge jackpot winner we can be doubly blessed just knowing them and cheering them on :)
Good advice but I won't need it. I'm cursed with cain't win and am forced to buy tickets in a state where no one else can win either when it comes to PB & MM.
This is good advice and hope the series covers in more details the pros and cons of how to claim, as well as the benefit of family foundations used to manage the wealth. As a seasoned lottery player, I have always felt it was a matter of time before I hit the jackpot. Good luck to my fellow lottery players and Lottery Post keep the advice videos coming!!!
I take it your state isn't Florida ;)
Thank you everyone for such nice comments! It's so wonderful to hear such a warm reception to the video roll-out after the all preparation that went into it. What I really enjoy reading and find most interesting are your thoughts and opinions on the subject. That being said, we will absolutely take any suggestions into consideration for future video topics.
If I have won the lottery I would give back to the community to make the community a better place for kids and families without all this gun violence then I will take my family on a vacation and the rest I would take and pay off every bill I owe get up gravesite plaque for my mother and my grandmother and my brother and that's what I would use my winnings for I'm not playing to waste it I'm playing so that I can have a better life
if and when l win- l will draw up my own set of " Do's & Do not's" for the generation coming after me to follow.
In the meantime, l could be found here...
It's real and the dream lives on..
Kate .......Thanks for the video, really enjoyed it. At some point in the future I would love to see a video from you guys showing us the top 3 states which have produced the most Powerball and MM winners. I realize that my state (Tenn.) is no where near the top, but it would be fun to see which states have the most winners over the last few years. Thanks.
Great value del. My decision would be easy. I'm giving 85% of it away.
Good video. The only downside is the number of people who could actually put such advice to use is infinitesimally small. Not that I wouldn't love to be one.
"give them her tax accountant phone number. He automatically says NO!!"
One the one hand I understand it, but it basically means that every time somebody asks you for some of your money you give some of your money to the accountant.
"it would be fun to see which states have the most winners"
That information gets posted every now and then, and I think the last time I recall seeing something about fairly recently. Here's a PB list from last summer: https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/333049
i won MegaMillions 6 7 2019.
claimed it in Sacramento Sept.2019.
so far not one dollar from C<snip> and they giveme no recognition.
this is my nightmare. There is no Laarni Bibal and California Lottery refuses to deal with me the actual winner.
So as far as i can see after you win the California State Lottery keeps the jackpot makes up a fictitious person for payout then chides everyday the actual winner.
i even went back to Sacramento 11-2020 to show california lottery my identifying documents etc and to straighten this nightmare out.
They called the California Highway Patrol and ran me off saying "oh we have to do a deep search of our files.
so after you win do not expect much
winner 530million MegaMillion 6 -7 -2019 San Diego California
Machine, you've been here since January, why are you only telling us this now?
As the joker said to Batman " Why so serious?"
I suppose it is because everyday i wake up and womder how i bungled away 530million dollars and how california got the best of the situation and not paid a dime.
Winner 530million dollars 6-7-2019 San Diego CA.
all together now...THERE IS NO LAARNI BIBAL
Short question: Did you present the WINNING lottery ticket, not documents- just the ticket itself?
Yes or No?
If not, no amount of documentation is going to get you paid out- it's THE ticket itself, everything else is fluff.
Yes, i presented the winning ticket at the Sacramento district office September 12th 2019 after being told at California Lottery Headquarters no claims were made there by any player. i signed the winning ticket at the window in the district office in front of three agents and after looking around at the dingy office i felt best if i requested a mail-in lottery claim form which i filled out and mailed to headquarters with the signed winning ticket in Sacramento on September 12th 2019 the California Lottery noted the winning ticket as received on September 17 2019.
So far just laughter and chiding from Calotto when i contact them as well as they called the CHips when i showed back up 11-10-2020 to try and reason with them and clear things up.
So you win lottery and in my experience the entity denys payment.
i am not a woman there is no Laarni Bibal.
Great job with the video.
This is why I'm a platinum member her at Lottery Post.
Keep them coming.
