NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News man and his son split a hefty Virginia Lottery win.
Lamar Mouling, Sr. bought three Cash 5 tickets for himself and one for his son, Lamar Mouling, Jr. Each ticket had the same 5 numbers in the June 14th drawing, and they turned out to be the winning numbers. Together the pair won a total of $400,000, or $100,000 per ticket.
The winning numbers were 3, 10, 13, 14, and 15.
Lamar Sr. purchased all four tickets at Stop & Go located at 14609 Warwick Boulevard in Newport News. The father said he plans to use his winnings to invest in retirement. Lamar, Jr., said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
Cash 5 drawings are every day at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
wishing them continued good fortune
Excellent choice Lamar.......... Congrats to you and your son
Like Father, Like Son. Cash 5 odds are decent 1 in 278,256. They made a good return on their money. Enjoy it!!
How much do you want to bet that Lamar Jr blows through all of his money in no-time flat?
His father, on the other hand, will spend wisely if he wants to have an early retirement.
even money type wager thar, meatman2k5
but you never know with this younger generation
Roll music* & TheMeatman2005 responses into one and that's exactly what came across my mind.
Son: 'Dad, can't I have another winning ticket, I blew through the first $70K'. (Or whatever the amount is in VA after winning $100K.)
Yes, the Son will be a case study on how to spend $70,000.00 now and not think about his future.
The Father will watch him closely and learn if he does not know already.
Whatever they do with it. It's theirs to do what they wont. "Don't Hate, Congratulate" Nice win you two Enjoy your winnings.
I was just thinking the other day that I had not seen a multiple ticket winner for a while for this game. Someone won with 10 tickets once. I have played it a few times with no luck. The rules specify that the total amount available for the top prize is $2 million so assuming you are the only top winner, 20 winning tickets would be the max. Still waiting for that to happen.
Congrats to the winners.
Good for them because Cash 5 winning tickets are only won around Roanoke and Richmond headquarters!
I repeat winning tickets are only won on the east coast of Virginia.
Have anyone else noticed that no matter how many years you have been playing Cash 5 and if you don't live near Richmond, VA you won't win $100,000.00.
I have noticed this for awhile now and it amazes me that this has never been questioned to the Virginia Lottery.
I agree with you Tang. Forget northern Virginia winners...they are few and far between.
It's because the population density of eastern Virginia is much higher than the western half of the state. All else being equal, that means more winners from eastern Virginia. Winning lottery tickets (by scratch-off or by chance in ball draws) are not distributed geographically; they are correlated by the number of tickets sold. This should be intuitive, i.e. when people buy more tickets, there will be more winners.
Northern Virginia has a bunch of overpaid government workers, and people with high incomes tend not to play the lottery.
I live in Northern Virginia and know a lot of high income people who play the lottery. And the population density is very high. I consider the lottery to be a challenge. Remember the guy in Northern Virginia who bought either a pb or mm ticket at the airport? And he was a high paid consultant.
Yep the old "jackpot envy" appears again.
