The old Windows Lotto Pro broke the numbers into Hot, Cold, Due, and Prior Draw and picked randomly from those fields based on the percentages of winning numbers coming from those fields in the game's history.
For a lotto software author this was rather brillant as everyone got something different and equally valid prior to the draw.
Trouble was, users didn't like getting different numbers every time they ran it, they wanted rock solid predictions, the "best" numbers to play, so the program was changed.
