If the odds of picking the winning set of numbers is 1 in 1,000,000, then buying two tickets for a game with those odds DOES NOT give you 2 in 1,000,000.

Playing the same numbers over and over again does not increase the chances of those numbers being winners. Every time there is a draw those numbers have the same chance of coming up that they had the first time.

Further, if some numbers have been winners more often than others, it does not mean they are more likely to come up again as winners.

In any given draw the odds are always the same for all numbers in the pool.
If certain numbers "seem" to repeat, or follow other numbers, it's just coincidence.

Unless there is a mechanical reason for one particular ping pong ball to get sucked up the tube more often than the others, the odds are what they are, and only due to mathematical probability, not some numerology mumbo jumbo, or the alignment of the stars, or if the groundhog see's his shadow etc. etc.

I'm amazed at the number of people that seem to think there is a way to predict the outcome of a lotto draw, (assuming the party running the lotto is legit).

If you are entertained by the mystical aspect of numerology then please enjoy, but do not pay someone for "winning numbers".
If they knew which numbers would win why would they be selling it to you for chump change when they could just win big and be done with it.

youre wrong. if you buy 2 tickets you have 2 combos out of a million, so mathematically your odds are 2 in a million. what school did you go to?

danger will robinson, i couldn't resist my reference to the character played in the old tv series "lost in space".
the reference is ironic and fits perfectly in here because they are some people in here who are "lost in space". i have challenged them to prove they can "predict", they are still silent. the lottery is RANDOM and no one can "predict" it. people that are desperate and don't know any difference fall for this stuff. education at least gives them the abilty to make a better choice. thanks for being a fellow "educater"...........visiondude

This is where it gets picky on wording. The odds are 1:1,000,000 no matter how many tickets you buy, but your chances increase the more tickets you buy.

Okay, now I believe you can predict lottery numbers

you want the real odds? it doesn't matter how many tickets you buy. if it is your "turn" (some people know what i mean by that), then it you are the next big winner. with a game like mega-millions at 1 in a 135 million odds, it never seems to amaze me how people will throw 50, 100 , 200 dollars when there is a large jackpot THINKING it will increase their odds. one dollar will suffice. anything else is a waste of money. but some people have money to "waste"........visiondude

I really don't think that we are taking turns winning the various lotteries. If we are how is the list compiled? To me the parents of that little girl who needs a liver I saw on a jar in a convinence store probably needs it more than most of the people who have won.

Okay, now I believe you can predict lottery numbers

thomas, you , i or anyone cannot "predict" the numbers for any given lottery. but based on our private converstaions you know exactly where i am coming from and exactly what i meant. in that respect, that part of the lottery is NOT random. (of course that is my opinion). just because you may not understand or accept how things work, does not mean it is not true. questions do have answers. but if one wants the answer, they must except the explanation even if they don't "like" the explanation. as long as it is the truth. i sure can remember that when i was a child my parents told me things about life or my circumstances that i didn't understand or "like". it did not dilute the truth of what they were telling me. turns out "later on", they were right. i just didn't want to listen and or trust their judgement. get my comparison?

No you have two chances to win at 1 in a million.
Your chances aren't twice as good, you would have to cut the number choices in half to have 2 in a million.
