  So for Tuesday 8/22/23 Georgia pick 3 numbers for the evening draw are 858, and for the night? 858, what are the odds of that happening, I would think it's very high

  PA for 8/22 picked 889 in both day and night. Day draws are Computer drawn, night still uses ball machines. Agreed that the chance night matches day is 1:1,000

  The probability of 858 repeating in evening, given that it occurred it in the morning is 1/1000, as db101 reported. This is what we call a conditional probability, P(B|A). Event A is 858 occurred in the morning, and B is 858 occurred in the evening. The "|" means "given that". Clearly P(B) = P(B|A) in this case, meaning they are independent.

  What about the joint probability of ANY winning numbers from the morning repeating in the evening? That's also 1/1000, but how we get there is slightly different. There are 1000 possibilities for the morning and, likewise, 1000 for the evening. Therefore, we multiply the two to get 1000000 total possibilities, as morning and evening are independent. Suppose a given (random) set of winning numbers from the morning repeats in the evening. Each possibility is mutually exclusive from all the other possibilities, and there are exactly 1000 them (111, 112, 113, ... , 999). Therefore, because each event is mutually exclusive, we can add each probability to arrive at a total. We have P(evening=morning) = 1000 x [(1/1000) x (1/1000)] = 1000/1000000 = 1/1000.
