How is it that being in a Lottery Pool where over 6000 tickets are purchase and you can't even score 2nd place winners.. I wondering just how random the Mega Million and Powerball draws are.. Yes I know someone can walk in and just buy one ticket and boom - just wondering out loud... asking for a friend - thanks

Maybe they are not applying any strategies to increase their odds of winning, then again even applying some strategies the odds for Powerball and Mega Millions is still so high. Maybe they should focus on smaller games.

We could all win the lottery today!

If you aren't scoring 2nd tier prizes afta spendin THAT kinda money?..Y'ALL need to start using Probability Math on your bets.. I'll betcha THEN you'll start winning, probably the Jackpots.

The viability of the numberz PICKED determinez how serious LOs take you, but coupled wit THAT kinda buget... Geeezz, .. LOs would be beggin me NOT TA PLAY.. .. cause I Shut'em Dooown wit $40.

I once knew of a Dr that spent 2 Grand or more everytime he'd bet on Fantasy5 or MM, PB..if his tickets didn't contain at least a 2nd tier prize or more, he'd give all the tickets to the Store clerks..which often contained $50 prize here or $200.prize there..He's deceased now, but I believe he was aware of his mortal future , and decided to spend as much of his wealth as he could before departing..

I can only wish that I had access to a local Lottery Pool wit that much cash to spend.. but past experiences has shown It'z much more a nIgHtMaRe than a blessing... Tooooo many kNuCkLeHeAdZ ta deal wit and their limited intellects..none willing to share some of the workload.. but suspicious of the one having to do all the work...

Don't know how many iz in ya Pool, how long ya been together, but one ov y'all need to stick yo head in a Probability & Statistics Book... you'll be glad ya did..!! .. Ya may git ragged here on LP by the Joke Junckie Gang, but hey if y'all would win say like the current PB?, at $490 Million?

6,000 tickets is barely scratching the surface sorry to break it to you. If the lottery pool you're in are buying 6,000 tickets I bet you are losing over half the money each and every draw.

The odds of winning second prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,607,306.

That means if you purchased 6,000 tickets, your odds are 6,000 in 12,607,306.

Simplified, that equates to your pool's odds of winning second prize of 1 in 2,101. So if you purchase 6,000 tickets every consecutive drawing, you can expect to win second prize at least once every 2,101 drawings. At 104 drawings per year, that would be 20 years.

You can certainly get lucky and win much sooner than that, but if you play 6,000 tickets per drawing for 20 years and don't win at least one second prize, then you should really start asking questions.

Update - the person who asked this question is playing in the Jackpot App - with other folks from his stake - on average with the public pool there are about 6000 sometime more tickets purchase.. I as well as him was wondering why - they can not pull down a win at least a few third or fourth prizes.

P.S. He has been in the pool about a year...

No, you can expect your long term average success rate to be once every 2,101 drawings. You could win next week, or you could play 5000 drawings without winning a 2nd place prize.

And if you do win 2nd place in MM or PB each ticket will be worth a whopping $166.67 or $333.33 if everyone is spending the extra $1 for the powerplay/megaplier. If you win the PB jackpot this Saturday each ticket would be worth $63,167. Assuming you only share it with the other 5999 people in the pool and don't lose half or 2/3 to other jackpot winners.

On the positive side, now that PB has 3 drawings a week you can expect a 2nd place win once every 13.5 years as a long term average.

It's a lot easier to buy 6000 Quick Picks then make up 600 play slips and find a store to run them through. I doubt most pools even think about wheeling their plays to guarantee a number of minor prizes, unless it's part of the sales pitch pushing the pool.

Not buying more means that you will win, the universe of lottery numbers is very large, it is better to start with lotteries with fewer numbers to find strategies on how to win, greetings ...

Some lotteries have full-system play. Like EM, you could play 10 numbers with 4 stars if you want. Takes one form, two grids.

If you play a wheel, you generally cannot submit a file or list to paste in a text area. It is clicking or rarely typing. The design often sucks too. (...) We are happy that it works.

A nice thing would be to be able to submit a wheel by pasting or if bigger in a text file. That would make wheels more popular. Who wants to click 350 combinations on 350 grids? The chance of clicking wrong or other is high.
