More lottery winners using trusts to accept prizes anonymously
A $1 million scratch ticket was recently sold in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, but despite regulations requiring the Massachusetts State Lottery to disclose big winners we may never know who purchased the winning ticket. In a picture published on the Lottery's website announcing the winning, it is not the winner accepting the prize money. Instead, it is Brady McDevitt, an attorney and the trustee of The Apple Nominee Trust of Milton. McDevitt was able to accept the check as a trustee on the

Michigan lottery winners could remain anonymous under House bill
You've heard the touching stories: a waitress, retiree or unemployed worker hits the jackpot and wins the state lottery. Under a bill approved by the Michigan House Regulatory Reform committee on a 13-2 vote Wednesday, those stories would probably disappear because all lottery winners would be able to remain anonymous. The bill would prohibit the state lottery office from disclosing information about an individual who won any lottery prize unless that winner authorizes the release of infor

Texas legislature to consider lottery winner anonymity bill
What a turnaround. In the 2013 session the Texas House passed a bill aimed at abolishing the state lottery. But after some soul-searching mainly confronted with the fact the state would lose $1.1 billion a year for public education some representatives who wanted to eliminate the Texas Lottery Commission reversed their vote, in essence resuscitating the game. Now House members may go a step further. On Tuesday the 150-member chamber will consider a bill that would allow winners of mo

Canadian lottery winner fighting to remain anonymous
The winner of a $50 million lottery who waited a year to collect the prize and has still not been named more than a month later is fighting for the right to remain anonymous. The person doesn't want to be identified as the winner of the March 16, 2014, Lotto Max prize, a source who didn't want to be named said, despite a clear statement by the British Columbia Lottery Corp. It's almost scary, says Schley, a year after matching six out of six numbers on a Lotto 6/49 draw. We had to leave the house for abo

Bill would allow N.C. lottery winners to remain anonymous
Lottery players in North Carolina who win big money in the games from a Powerball jackpot to a $600 scratch-off ticket win can't keep it a secret. State law says the names of lottery winners and what they won are public information. But a House bill set for a hearing Wednesday would change that, requiring confidentiality unless the winners consent to having their information released. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Darren Jackson of Wake County, said he's concerned current technology makes it

But, Texas law requires that someone come forward to participate in a news conference and collect the money. House Bill 1504 would change th
