Lottery mathematics
I have some questions. What are the odds of having a Mega Millions draw (5/56+1/46) become a California Super Lotto Plus Pick (5/47+1/27)? What are the odds of having a Powerball draw (5/55+1/42) become a California Super Lotto Plus Pick (5/47+1/27)? I need to know the exact percentage of a MM and PB draw to become a CA SLP pick.

Scratcher Payouts
I have a question regarding the payout percentages of scratchers.Below is the payout table of a California $1 Easy 10 scratcher:How do I figure out the actual payout as a percentage? Do I multiply the amount won by the odds of winning that prize and sum all the numbers? I took 1/10+2/31+3/71+...+1000/480000. When I do that, I get a payout of 58.5% (I counted the free ticket prize as $1). This seems really low to me. May someone please correct me if I am wrong? Also, does anyone know what is

cash 3 question
The following chart is for California, but should be the same for other states. #1 #2 #3 0=100 100 1=74 1=30 104 2=43 2=34 2=6 83 3=33 3=55 3=13 101 4=34 4=41 4=16 91 5=18 5=53 5=34 105 6=9 6=37 6=35 81 7=37 7=52 89 8=17 8=72 89 9=93 93If you play 0 1 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 7 8 9 you have 72 combos. If you eliminate the pure combos (all even or all odd digits) you end up with 50 combos. Seldom will that group of 50 miss more than 3 days before hitting. I posted the chart of 72 a few month

Dumb question of the day
dragon, I believe you are correct. What gets confusing is the way some lotto players express themselves. If one is not careful, one can make a grave mistake in their mental equations (such as): odds = probabilities = tickets = combinations. Each one is a different animal (so-to-speak), but all are related....which is probably responsible for the confusion . As you say, the California Lottery has 42 million different combinations. I have been examining lotteries in terms of combinations

What are the odds? -- Unusual set of 5/39 QPs (California Fantasy 5)
I picked up 5 lines of CA Fantasy 5 quick picks for someone who's been housebound for a while. (Too bad you can't buy them online here.) The first numbers of the lines were 1, 2, 3, 4 5, although not in that order. It's a choose 5 out of 39 game and the numbers in a line are printed out in increasing order, standard stuff.
What are the odds of getting 5 quick picks like that?

How the lottery generates the ticket numbers
There is Absolutely No Guarantee all Quick Picks (Easy Picks) will be absolutely different from each other, meaning two or more are not the same combination.
In California, as far as we know, the Quick Picks are generated at a central computer.
