UK National Lottery

UK National Lottery operator Camelot revealed today that it plans to launch the lottery on interactive TV this spring, followed by a mobile service later in the year.

The news comes at the same time as the group announced its first ever Lotto Online Jackpot winner, which it said is believed to be the UK's biggest online gaming win to date.

The lucky winner scooped the £5.9m jackpot for the Lotto draw on Saturday 20 March after buying a ticket online.

Richard Hurd-Wood, Camelot's Diector of Interactive, said that thousands of people are signing up to play Lotto on the internet everyday, adding that he was "thrilled" to celebrate the first internet jackpot winner.

The National Lottery first went online a year ago, with the launch of interactive scratchcards and Instant Win Games, but it wasn't until December that Camelot started selling tickets for both the main Lotto game and its new Daily Play game on its website.

It now plans to extend that interactivity to other new media channels, although it has yet to reveal any further details.

A spokesperson for Camelot said the new iTV service, expected in the next month, and mobile service, were part of the company's continued strategy to expand the lottery's reach through digital media.
