What a difference a week makes: for the Tennessee Lottery, almost $41.3 million. That was just for scratch off tickets. Now, it's on to the numbers.
Of the $41,268,401 in ticket sales during the Lottery's inaugural week, $13.65 million came from Nashville; $9.97 million from Memphis; $6.92 million from the Chattanooga region; $6.76 million from Knoxville; $3.44 million from the Northeastern region, and more than a half-million dollars from retailers not yet assigned a district.
The week's biggest winner bought her ticket in Memphis. Florence Blue, a nurse from Greenwood, Miss., scored $25,000 worth of scratch while sightseeing here.
The first week also produced 15 winners of $7,000 each; 4 winners of $5,000 each; and 147 winners of $1,000 each.
The Lottery now will intensify its focus on Cash 3, a numbers game that will launch on or before March 20.
All Tennessee Lottery profits will go to education programs. The Lottery is charged with raising at least $88 million by July 1 to fund scholarships for an estimated 65,000 students expected to attend the state's colleges and universities next fall.
