Man didn't realize he won nearly $2 million lottery until 5 months later

Colorado Lottery

Better late than never.

One Colorado man didn't realize he won nearly $2 million after a drawing until he checked his ticket — five months later.

The Denver man told Colorado Lottery officials he bought a Lotto drawing ticket for Nov. 18, 2017, but didn't take it to a store to be checked until April 2018 because he prefers to wait until he has several tickets to scan at once.

One of his scanned tickets prompted him to "Claim at Lottery."

"I immediately logged into the mobile app and checked my numbers for that date. I was completely stunned," he said.

The man discovered he had won a jackpot of $1,996,761.

He said he'd heard there was a big winner in the Nov. 18 drawing, but "I never thought it was going to be me."

The man collected his winnings in the form of a $983,380 lump sum.

He said he plans to pay some bills, save for retirement and "have a little fun" with the money.

This guy's story is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. Wait 5 months till you check, whether you have a winning ticket or not?

I will give him a major thumbs up for writing " Big Winner "on the check and covering his mug. This should be the norm in concealing one's identify. Wanna see something? Check out my abs!

The lottery made a mistake when writing out the dollar amount on the presentation check.

They didn't have another one that they could use to write it correctly? What?

One Million Nine Hundred Nine Sixty Six Thousand Seven Hundred Sixty One!

Good catch. I will add that to my list when I win. My large check must have no typos.

I Agree! and no edits. If I err on a check, I write VOID on it and write another with no errors.

The article said "He said he plans to pay some bills, save for retirement and "have a little fun" with the money."

A lot of times, winners say that they will pay SOME bills.

With that kind of windfall, why not pay off ALL your bills?

If I win any appreciable sum of money, you can bet your bippy I will live debt free!

I think he meant bills generally. ...like let's go have some food.  Hopefully that is what he meant.

Fed Tax = 37%  Colorado State Tax = 4%

 41% of $983,380.00 = $403,185.80

   $983,380.00 - $403,185,80 = $580,194.20

Bills, retirement, fun.  Retirement should be first priority after bills and debts are paid. Cut those credit cards in half.

Two million sure goes fast when you are having fun.

Bed I am beat and ready for the Sandman.
