Etobicoke couple win fortune with a set of Quick Pick numbers
Liz and Doug Kinsman of Etobicoke have a Friday night ritual and it won them $27 million.
It was just a Quick Pick. Just chance.
But it garnered them the big Super 7 lottery prize of $27 million — plus $10 extra on the ticket as a bonus number.
"We feel fantastic ... we're kind of numb still," Doug Kinsman said today.
"It's the magnitude. A million or $2 million is one thing but $27 million ... it hasn't sunk in yet," Kinsman said.
It's the 10th largest Lotto Super 7 jackpot won since the game was established in 1994, according to the Ontario Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp.
The Kinsmans bought two Quick Pick tickets last Friday night. And the second one got them a free Super 7 ticket that they just found out about today.
The Etobicoke couple, married 39 years, have been playing Super 7 every week for 10 years. They always used the same numbers — until last year, when they lost them (they didn't say how).
Kinsman said that was chance too. If they hadn't lost those numbers and played Quick Pick, they might not have won the big prize, he said.
And, as usual on Sundays, the couple looked for the winning numbers in the Star. "We plunked right down in the den. He reads out the numbers and I circle them," Liz said. "There were a lot of circles," she said, on finding they'd won.
But they still couldn't believe their good fortune.
They were so incredulous that they checked their numbers at two different locations, getting the same winning answer at both.
"Then we called the children," Liz said.
The couple tossed and turned all night, they were so excited.
They even checked their numbers a third time on their way over to claim their prize at the lottery center today.
"The Etobicoke couple, married 39 years, have been playing Super 7 everyweek for 10 years. They always used the same numbers — until last year, when they lost them (they didn't say how)."
Congrats to them, but how would they lose numbers that they have been playing every week for 10 years? Wouldn't they have them memorized by now.
I think it depends on the numbers. But I can see how. With the advant of cell phones few of us can remember telephone numbers because all we have to do is whip out our cell phones and dial it in the address book. I'm sure they had it in a card written out and never bother to memorize it. Your brain gets lazy like that. Congrats to them!
Once Again, proof that man has zero inpact on the tube. It will randomly drop numbers, and those that think otherwise are not thinking. Random numbers means a random number pick is best. Quick Picks have way more winers then those sitting on some wheel. Enjoy life, spend time with the family, then go buy a quick pick. THE BEST OPTION TO WIN THE LOTTERTY!
I totally agree with you. Even when I have one of my senior moments, I always have last week's bet slips at home. I mean, if they don't keep their old tickets, then one would imagine they use the same card all the time. If you bet the same numbers, why would you fill out a new card twice a week? A couple of times I left my cards at home and bought a couple of QPs since I had already walked up to the counter (don't want to look too blonde LOL) and then went out later and played my cards. Maybe they meant that their numbers came up and they didn't play one night. I once "lost" Fantasy 5 that way.
Some people just don't memorize numbers. Most people under 30 could not say the "times ten table" for a thousand dollar prize. Put them in front of a cash register, without a computer to tell them what the count is, and they are as dumb as dirt. I've seen smarter Geese. Some people can, it is part of the 10% rule, but most would not. Memorizing a number is something some people have not been trained to do.
they look younger than I thought
I still have numbers memorized from two years ago!
Me too...
It's not like these people were asked to memorize a long set of numbers they got 2 days ago. They played the same 7 numbers, every week for 10 years. Big difference. Odds are they would know it by now.
Ahhh, but their memory loss resulted in a twenty seven million dollar jackpot. Pretty good memory lapse. Memorize numbers and loose. Don't memorize numbers and win $27M. Hummm. Which option worked out?
I can see how you could lose numbers. I use the same playslip every week. I check the numbers by entering them in a lottery tracking program and liet it tell me if I won. If I lost the play slip and couldn't get home to copy the numbers out of the program I would have to do what they did. I don't memorize my numbers for the same reason mentioned earlier with cell phones, why memorize when I can push a button. Lazy, I know, but what the heck.
I doubt if it was a memory problem when you play the same numbers for 10 years. My guess is that one day they forgot their card and played a quick pic and the they got a hit of some sort, so they road the QP lucky streak and gave up on their numbers....anyway here they are with 27 million on a QP,,,and all we want know is how they could "loose" their regular numbers....
Congrats
people that grow old together look the same . it's true.
Etobicoke? Where the heck is that? Is it the place just north of Diet Etobicoke?
The solution would be to have your program and the data it needs on a Pocket PC, as I have mine. As long as I (clunk!) remember to bring the Pocket PC with me! Or on a laptop PC, but Pocket PC is more convenient when you are filling betslips on the coffee-stained counter of the ELE7VEN.
