$90 Million: California lottery jackpot raised again

California Lottery

One day after the California SuperLotto Plus jackpot rolled to $89 million, California lottery officials raised it by another $1 million.

California lottery jackpots are guaranteed amounts, so the raised amount can only be due to actual sales exceeding expectations.

The new guaranteed California SuperLotto Plus jackpot for the Wednesday, June 28, 2006 drawing is $90 million.

Lottery players throughout California are buying tickets at a rapid pace for the largest SuperLotto Plus jackpot in almost two years.  The last time a California lottery jackpot was this big was on August 28, 2004, when three tickets split a $100 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot (see story 1, see story 2).

Drawing results are posted on Lottery Post's California Lottery Results page soon after the drawing, which will take place at 8:00 pm Pacific Time on Wednesday.

Being able to generate state lottery jackpots that size, one has to wonder why California joined the multi-state game MegaMillions.  MegaMillions sales are probably going to be down until its state lottery jackpot is won.

I posted on the other post about this, but I was wondering why it wasn't a bit higher. I thought they sold a lot of tickets and that the next roll would have been a bit higher.

Hey Belly,

The Termanator is running a tight ship here, and he's running again, and I think Texas got into a bit of trouble a year or so ago for posting higher JP prices than it could payout.  I would guess 41% to 47% of the people here in CA play both games but they wait til the CASL+ JP gets bigger than the MM JP then they plop down.  I keep at least one tix going on both games at each draw.  Ya can't win if ya aint got a tix.  Good Luck Everybody.

I can understand why the officials keeps the jackpots estimates conservative. I guess it's better then lying and saying the jackpots are higher then they really are.

I hope CA SLP Jackpots continue to roll and hurt MM sales. I remember last time when jackpot was raised, somebody won the jackpot. For example, on January 21st, the jackpot went from 83 to 84 million.

The SLP may have generated a jackpot this size, but it took twenty-one consecutive draws with no winner to get here. Mega Millions needs only six draws with no winner to get this high.

Yes but Mega doesn't make it through those 6 drawings, at least not lately. Odds are this pot (the 98 million one) will be adjusted past 100 million.
