Release of Saturday winner information and start of Sunday sales delayed to due systems problems

Powerball winner results were delayed for the drawing on Saturday, May 13, 2006.

"Strict balancing and processing requirements" for the game required all systems to delay the start of ticket cashing for the game on Sunday morning.

Once all systems were confirmed to be in balance, at 6:55 a.m. Eastern, sales and cashing were authorized for all retailers across the country.

The Powerball grand prize was not hit Saturday evening, but 658,097 players across the nation won a total of more than $6.5 million in prizes in "America's Game".

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers the jackpot will grow to an estimated $114 million for Wednesday night's drawing.

The cash option for the Wednesday, May 17th drawing will be an estimated $50.5 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday were 19, 28, 30, 47, 54 and the Powerball was 13. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Eight tickets in Iowa (2), Minnesota (1), Oklahoma (1), Pennsylvania (2), and South Carolina (2) correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. One additional ticket in South Carolina not only won at that level but also had the Power Play option that multiplied the win 3 times for a total of $600,000.

Twenty-Eight tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Eight additional winning tickets at that prize level also had the Power Play option for a total prize of $30,000.

More than 107,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 3 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply any winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

The lotteries have sold approximately $2.5 billion in Powerball tickets so far in fiscal year 2006. That translates into approximately $725 million for worthwhile state projects.

Yeah when the drawing results were not released by 1:00 am I knew there was something up.  Different excuse used this time compared to the other times they had delays.

Congratulations to the 2nd prize winners including the one winner with Power Play. I hope it continues to roll. Also, the last jackpot set a roll 8 record.

A lot of second place winners. Congrats to them. I think the jackpot may get up to 200 million before being won this time.

If one state doesn't balance, the systems in every MUSL state go into what is called "lockdown". This can happen even if the host system is fine (i.e. on the vendor side) but the Lottery's ICS system has a hiccup (or vice versa).

The fact that it happens so infrequently stands in pretty good contrast to other government systems IMO.

Usually if there is a delay it means one or more people won. If no one wins the results are out faster.

You think someone tried to hack in the winning number, throwing everything out of balance?

...."but 658,097 players across the nation won a total of more than $6.5 million in prizes in "America's Game"."

Let's see...that means the average winner in America's Game won a whopping $9.87.

Not impressed.

its funny how pb results are within an hour and ten minutes after the drawing .mega millions results take from three to six hours after the drawing.powerball has 30 somethings states and mega millions has , what fourteen.Todd knews the right numbers of states for each game.ok .so when the powerball drawing goes off i,i stay up late..when the mega results come in i wake up early.the only reason i do this is ,to see if i have to go to work anymore..lol
