South Carolina lottery sales for this fiscal year have topped $1 billion for the first time.

The milestone was reached Tuesday with seven more weeks before the 2006 fiscal year ends, according to lottery officials.

The previous record was $957 million set last fiscal year, according to the lottery.

Instant tickets make up 60 percent of sales, with Powerball the next biggest seller, the lottery said.

The lottery began in January 2002 and has given more than $1 billion to education programs, officials said.

I am very pleased to know that I have contributed to this record, all while receiving less than $100.00 return on investment in the 2006 fiscal year.

Woo Hoo !!!
