Ballots were mailed Monday to the homes of 307 Oregon State Lottery workers, to see if they want to unionize.
Workers can choose to empower Local 503 of Service Employees International Union to represent them for collective bargaining or to retain the status quo and have no union.
Lottery workers in the proposed bargaining unit have two weeks to vote. Their ballots must arrive at the state Employment Relations Board by 5 p.m. May 22.
Results of the vote will be announced the next morning, said Sandra Elliott, the elections coordinator for the board.
SEIU called the union vote in March, after submitting union-authorization cards signed by more than 30 percent of the proposed bargaining unit.
SEIU will prevail if it wins support from a simple majority of the people casting ballots.
