A 2002 winner of the Florida lottery purchased the Ironwood Golf Course in East Naples today for $1.4 million.

Ronald Berger submitted the winning bid at an auction to take over the course. It had been in foreclosure for more than a year because the previous owner hadn’t paid off creditors.

Berger, a 73-year-old Naples resident, said he plans to let the land remain a golf course and said he plans to open a restaurant on the site.

Before winning the lottery in 2002, Berger had always wanted to own a restaurant and golf course, and the nearly $10 million he won allowed him to do that, he said.

The owner before foreclosure was Illinois-based Van Elway Enterprises Inc. The abandoned pro shop for the 34-acre course is at 4710 Lakewood Blvd.

Another monkey wrench in the theory that people aren't smart enough to do smart things despite the fact they aren't the smart things maybe WE'D do.

Good on this guy.

If I ever win $10 mill I want no parts of anything that must be tended to day in and day out.

He's just buying the golf course because they wouldn't let him be a member.  Razz

I think it's great that he's opening a golf and resturant business if that is what he has always wanted to do. It goes to show, that it's never to late too go after your dreams.

it is not good to player hate on a person if the man wants to do what he feels for  and make his dream come true give him  the support and not bad mouth him by all means it is his money not your so let start unity and love and keep the bond together as he can be doing a lot for the area of NAPLES  fla and the residents there and as for the day to day operations if you have a business it will need attention on a day to day bases thats what you have people to work for you and give more people of america a few jobs and keep them steady employed AND BUILD  the revenue in the area for all  so think positive not negative
