Powerball

Next Wednesday's Powerball jackpot will be the 10th largest ever in the history of America's favorite game. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but an incredible 1,021,839 prizes were paid out for a total of more than $10.2 million worth of winnings.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $171 million.

The cash option for the Wednesday, December 8 drawing will be an estimated $93.3 million.

The numbers drawn were: 6, 9, 16, 22, 30 and the Powerball was 4. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Fifteen players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Arizona, Indiana (2), Kentucky (2), New Mexico (2), Missouri, Pennsylvania (2), Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. Four additional players from Connecticut, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Vermont not only matched the 5 white numbers but also purchased the Power Play option. By doing so, their winnings were multiplied by 4 for a total prize worth $400,000.

Eighty-two players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Eight additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option giving them a total win of $20,000.

More than 103,000 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 4. Winners were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players purchased more than $38 million in tickets between Wednesday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

do you think the time will come again when a powerball winner chooses annuity...not that i would chose that option myself but just wondering....

urbossmanpimpin's avatarurbossmanpimpin

I dont know......but if it ever does happen it will be talked about cause the winner will be 1st person to do it in a few years....

If I win thats the route that I would take. . . . annutity

The reason why almost all winners take the cash option is because with sound financial planning, you can earn way more than the approx. 3% return the annuity has on the cash value. I would take the cash option any day.

Some peole will argue that taking the annuity option would be best for people who cant control their spending. But experiences of past winners suggests that just because they take the annuity option doesnt mean they are going to spend less.

CASH Only

You know where I stand.

I'd be impressed if someone's dog said that. Either that or swear off caffeine for life.

I'm taking cash and heading for the Caymen Islands.

Sounds like a perfect plan to me!

The Cash Option is HUGE.....but when the annuity gets to this level.....4 million a year....one can only be "4 million stupid"...then you have 29 more chances to get it right......annuity looks better at high levels....Buy a million in property each year......you will be very well off in 20 or so years
