Firewalls and ad-blocking software

These days there are many different choices consumers can make about protecting their computers from viruses, spammers, hackers, etc.  Popular packages include Norton, Microsoft OneCare, McAfee, Zone Alarm, Kaspersky, and Avast, to name just a few.

While much of the protection is essential, the default settings are often overly-restrictive, and block things that you would not necessarily want to block, if given the choice.

Internet security software often is set to monitor all Internet traffic (data) coming in and out of your computer, and blocks the traffic that it deems suspicious.

There are several important areas where Lottery Post could be partially blocked, including, but not limited to:

How can I determine if my Internet security software is the problem?

The easiest way to find out if your Internet security software is causing a problem is to completely disable the Internet security software, and try the non-working feature again.

For example, if you can't seem to log in — i.e., after you log in the page continues to say "Welcome Guest" — then cookies are most likely being blocked.  To find out if your Internet security software is the culprit, completely disable the security software, and then try logging in again.  If you are successful, then you know that your next task is to read to security software's Help/Support and figure out how to configure the Internet security settings to allow your computer to save Lottery Post's cookies.

You can disable most Internet security software by right-clicking the software's small tray icon and selecting the option for disabling the software.  ("Tray icons" are the small icons that appear on most systems in the lower-right corner of the screen, right next to the clock.  Practically every known Internet security software package will install a tray icon.)

Testing your web browser

When looking for the source of a problem, we usually recommend starting by eliminating the most common problems.

To do this, we have created a simple-to-use utility called the Browser Compatibility Test.  (You can find the utility in the Resources menu near the top of any Lottery Post page.)

When you go to the Browser Compatibility Test, it immediately runs a series of tests on your Web browser and computer, and reports any problems it finds.

For example, if cookies are being blocked, the utility will find that problem and tell you some possible solutions.

Although many of the problems identified by the utility can be fixed by configuring your Web browser directly, it is also possible that problems identified by the utility are being caused by Internet security software installed on your PC.  You can use the method of disabling the security software to find out if that is the case.
