My ONE good thing The Lottery Commission has come up with is the self scanner machines. WAY too many crooked Lottery Clerks were stealing money from Winners before the self scanner machines were implemented. Before the self scanner machines, Chris Hansen did an investigation and SEVEN Lottery Clerks told the Undercover Agents that their Winning tickets were losers. :/ Six of them tried to cash it in themselves and we're confronted, arrested, and sentenced. The seventh Clerk caught on quickly when he saw the camera crew coming into his store mere minutes after he told the Undercover Agent that her $500 winning ticket was a loser. He threw the ticket over the Counter. He was only fired, but not sentenced since he didn't attempt to cash it in..

"What's your ADDRESS?" May be the CREEPIEST question EVER asked to a Lottery Winner! O.O WTF?

At first, I found the one digit away draws kind of amusing, but now I am PISSED! 15 or 16 times I was off by just one digit in recent times!🤬 No longer find this amusing, it's making me REALLY angry now!🤬

I would have to say the VIP rewards program, gives a 2nd chance on entering your losing tickets for other prize drawings.

At least in Texas it's impossible for a clerk to steal when checking a ticket. If it's a winning ticket the terminal sounds a "da-da-daaaa chime. (or something like that). And even when the customer scans their own ticket, I still have to scan it to process the prize (assuming I can pay it).

That episode of Dateline NBC aired ten years ago today. I believe there was LP News item about it too. And ticket scanners were in every store long before that and so were state lottery sites and Lottery Post. You may be confusing players too lazy to check their tickets.

Be careful. If you rely on the scanner machines as "being correct" instead of doing your due diligence, by checking your numbers in the LotteryPost database AND the SL Database, then well, you should be well aware of the potential downside...

A crooked lottery thief can be fixed with a loud voice, agressive temper, some mild threats of violence and a broken bottle, but a DS scanner thief is ghost,a ghost in the machine.

The Ohio lottery had ticket scanners at least 25 years ago as did Michigan, WVA, Florida and New Jersey. And before that most lottery players had enough sense to check the results and sign the back of the ticket before handing to a store clerk.

Based on most of your comments, it look like you just started playing lottery games and obviously don't understand store clerks don't work for or get paid by state lotteries. Store owners collect $50 on every $1000 in sales so it's now like their profits are based on selling and cashing tickets.

Lottery Post shows daily results within minutes of the drawing, if you don't thing the scanners are "legit".

Yep.

With all the ways the state lotteries and lottery sites have to check results, why would anyone go into any old store and hand their ticket to someone they never saw before?

Don't most players that frequently buy tickets buy and cash them in stores they trust?
