My "research" (if you can call it research) was as unscientific as it gets. It just seemed to me that if the first name was obviously a woman's name, I'd very often see that ticket was a QP bought in a supermarket that won a jackpot. Of course, there were also women that picked their own numbers.

I think that many women do the grocery shopping for their family, and it's both convenient and they're comfortable with buying a ticket in what they consider to be a safe environment. My wife wont go into some convenience stores or gas stations that she thinks are "shaky looking". That probably has to do with the homeless people hanging around the front door asking for money as customers go inside. G5

Ok, gotcha. I saw what you mean with the female names and the name of the store. Probably true that women don't go to liquor stores and other "vice" shops as often as men. In my cursory sample of half a dozen random pages I still tallied more male names than female, a ratio of about 3:2. Surprisingly the split between self-picks and quick picks is about half and half. I wonder if that old saying that 70% of tickets sold are quick picks is out-dated, or not broadly applicable to all games.

Of course it's outdated..just like the outdated notion that Probability won't tell you WHEN an event will occur..because it WILL..provided, you do the Math..and not settle to accept the Theoretical summations only..

Lotteries want Players to believe that their chances are better buying their worthless QPs issued by Store Terminals..that's a part of their business plan, in order to maximize revenue, they Psychologically bombard Players with Astronomical Odds printed on the back of playslips in order to discourage serious Mathematical study..Using LCSF Software to dodge serious players, while systematically allowing the average Schmuck that purchase QPs to mostly win Jackpots, as a dangling Carrot before All aspiring Jackpot winners..

Even most, if not all Mathematicians and Statisticians have bought into such Statistical misnomers..thus My term for them.. "Numerical Flat Earthers".. unknowingly frightening the average player into believing "they'll fall off the edges of Calculations", if they attempt the undertaking of the purported Astronomical Odds into Analysis..which really are Lotteries' WORST NIGHTMARES...in having astute, calculating players picking their OWN numbers via chopped down to true sizeable Odds brought into focus by Probability Math..!!

I saw the same thing after I downloaded and searched the PDF file using the search tool included in Acrobat Reader software. That PDF file contains more than six hundred pages and goes back to May of 2012. It's way too big to search manually.

In FF5 it looks like players don't buy as many QP's as often is said they do for other games. After I downloaded the PDF file of jackpot winners from The Florida Lottery's website, I searched for a 'Y' (Yes) in the Quick Pick field of the report. My search revealed 3,667 instances of a Y in that field. I then searched for an 'N' (No) in the same field. That search revealed 3,807 instances of an N. That's a total of 7,474 of N's and Y's. N's represent 50.9% of the total, whereas Y's are 49.1%.

It appears that approximately 2 percent more players bought self-picks than those that bought a QP. A possible explanation for that is the savvy FF5 players in Florida are known to play multiple lines of the same set of five numbers to put themselves in position to win a larger share of the jackpot if it's split among multiple winners. (Which cant be done if you buy QP's)

Although the file isn't a complete history of FF5 jackpot winners, (FF5 started in 2001) I would think that it's a large enough sample to accurately reflect what's happening with FF5 with regard to players buying QP's versus picking their own numbers. G5

It aint that I don't believe ya Sheriff, but Hell, I just buy self-picks cuz ya cant control what numbers that God awful terminal will give ya.

I leave the QP buyin' to the wife. Ya see, now that I know a lotta women win jackpots buyin' QP's in a supermarket, well, I got both bases covered.... G5

PS Ya shoulda seen how wide eyed she got when I explained to her that a ton of women are winnin' jackpots left and right in supermarkets. When we hit that Publix yesterday, we were'nt in it for 10 seconds when The Girl strode right up to the service desk and said; "Five dollars Fantasy5 QP please." She aint ever been too big on me and my lottery ticket buyin' ways, so maybe now she's got religion or sumthin.

She's a good hearted woman in love with a good timin' man.

She still loves me with my wicked ways that she don't understand.

I'm just going to throw my two cents in. I don't it is that more women are winning, I think it is more women are playing it so the odds are to their favor. I remember back in the days before lottery was allowed in NC there was beach bingo parlors every where or the high dollar bingo parlor on the Cherokee Rez. My observation back then was women out numbered the men in them places 4 to 1. And same goes for the Cherokee Casino that North Carolina has. Next time you go to one take notice.

Taking it one day at a time, because there's no way to know what might have been.
