  Don't retailers in most states get like... 6% of every ticket sold plus a bonus for prizes over a certain amount? If I'm going to be spending a few hundred dollars a week at a store, is it legal to negotiate a deal with the retailer where we split the 6% they get 50/50? Anyone know?

  If you go on the California lottery website and click on "retailers" you can find out exactly what they get.

  If you were a retailer would you want to split your bonus with a customer? If you were getting 6%, why would you want to give up half of it?

  One could argue that they could take their business elsewhere. I doubt anyone would go for this though, unless you're a hardcore gambler that's going to buy thousands of dollars worth a day or something. Who would want to risk losing that income? Better than a store full of unsold scratchers.

   

  As for legality, no idea. Anything is "legal" if you don't get caught, so there's that. lol. Obviously tread with caution, because if it is illegal and the owner wants to turn you in you're screwed.

   

  Here in VA you get 2% for sales and 1% for paying out a winning ticket, regardless of where it came from. That's still only 30$ a day to split if you bought and turned in a thousand dollars worth.

  Doesn't occur to me that there is any reason for this to be illegal. The lottery pays them a commission based upon tickets sold and winners paid out. What does it matter if they split that with a player? I have a really hard time believing that a retailer would want to do this. Unless the figures were decent enough, both on how much the player was willing to spend and how much the lottery compensated percentage wise.

   

  The player would need to really be spending A LOT of money for it to make sense. I just don't see it, but I think it's perfectly legal to do so.

  No, because they shouldn’t care. No offense but the next schmo will come in and spend 100’s of $ , all they have to do is wait. They pay taxes on that %6, too. It’s nothing to them. You’re talking about a few dollars here a few dollars there. Any retailer wouldn’t care. That’s not realistic. I believe they get a certain % of jackpot tickets printed by the machine. I don’t think they get anything from the scratchers.

  In Florida, retailers get 5% of any lotto sale (PB, MM, scratch-off) and then fixed dollar amount bonuses if they sell a top prize.  They also get a 1% commission for cashing in tickets.  I agree that a retailer has very little incentive to split their commission unless you are spending thousands of dollars a week.
