Simply because I wander does putting numbers in "out of order" because of stength screw the pooch in a balanced wheel?

I would think if the wheel was balanced it shouldn't matter what order the numbers are. If I wheel I go low to high. If you have numbers you consider best picks it might be better to use wheels with key numbers. Personally I prefer to make my own lines...that way I have control over what numbers appear on a line together.

I agree with ca dreaming.  Something that I learned in the military was a simple phrase....which is....K.I.S.S. 

It means " Keep it simple stupid".   Works for me.
