Where I'm from playing the lottery is known as the Redneck Retirement Plan.
I try to contribute to this plan every week. With a little luck I should be able to retire when I'm 195 years old.

With the lottery I get all the exercise I need.

I want to win a jackpot of course (who wouldn't?) but it doesn't have to be $100 million. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a raffle ticket this month, but $1 million would be just fine, and I won't pout if I get only the $100,000 prize.

You know, I did not play this time. Then the players in my city of play only won $10,000.00. That would have been nice, but......

I play because I find the idea of me winning a jackpot way too hilarious to keep the odds at zero.

I play because I want to be known as that fool who played the lottery (PB/MM/lotto) religiously and came up big time in his folly! I don't bother with anything less than the occasional pick 5 game as I am in it (playing the lottery) to win it BIG, not just a few thousand dollars when all my numbers match. Do I need to win the jackpot? No I am not "poor or destitute. But I am smart and resourceful and I know what I would do with $XXX million...and no I would not be like poor Jack Whitacker up in the strip clubs or anything like that so the xxx million does not refer to anything pornographic. Retire...nope, my belief is you die in some fashion when you retire. I will live to pursue my passions...and some of passions include continuing to work in a field that brings me and others rewards. Retire so only I and my family benefit...that's selfish. Retire so that someone else can fill that job slot...create my own enterprise and develop employment opportunities for others...now that's more like it!

Get MONEY!!! Winning a JACKPOT lottery is one MIRACLE I desire for 2019!!! NOW come to my subconscious mind you 6 winning numbers!

My rationale is that once someone can consistently win with p-3 (the lowest odds in the lottery world), then they should use that talent for harder games. I understand people here on this board like to dream about the big one, but I can't focus too much energy on the JP like the good folks here do. To some point I'm a realist, and devote most of my energy towards "Baby Steps Lottery".
I've learned from past experience that getting my hopes up for something like a huge JP or any other major windfall is pretty remote in everyday lives of people like me. Practicality rules in my book, and I leave dreams to sleeping time.

On my own, I play Louisiana Lotto every drawing and I play the 5 number game Easy 5. The prizes are smaller, but the odds aren't too bad. I only play Powerball when it gets above $100 million.

In addition, I run a lottery pool at work where we all put in $4 every payday and buy a mix of Powerball and Lotto tickets. We've won some small prizes of $3, $4, or $7, but haven't won the jackpot yet, but someday.

I think if I ever played the lottery it'd be one of those hospital-type charity ones, because I follow a philosophy of selfishness. Like, if I were to donate blood, I would have to justify it to keep from iron levels getting too high, or to become stronger by getting accustomed to the pain of needles which is necessary for giving blood tests at old age.
In the case of lottery, you want to give to charity, but if the charity may not directly benefit you, so you can excuse it by there being a chance of it giving returns for you, even if they are insanely low.
If there were some way to guarantee winning I'd do it since I want money, but then it's not really gambling right?

I think everyone wants to win a jackpot, but if I end up winning $1,000 , I'd be happy. Anything is better than nothing. Sure..the odds are against us, but you cant win if you don't play...only takes 1 ticket.

I agree. Of course most people want to win the jackpot (like me), but I would be happy winning the second or third prize as well.

Interesting choices you have in poll. For me, it is to win the JP for sure. Of course, winning anything in the second or third tier would be great too.
I really want to retire soon. Been working for the last 44 years and want to just sit back, travel and fish with family.
