What is Rich?

kinda partial to -sailing the tropics- myself  but thats just meI Agree!

I think it depends on the person. Rich to one person might not be rich to someone else. To me, rich is when a person has enough money to support themself for the rest of their life without working for or receiving more money AND making sure they manage that money good enough do to so. However, not everyone who is rich is going to stop working. I can say that Bill Gates is rich(as in my own definition described), but he continues to work for his company. If I won the lottery, I might be rich, but I would probably start my own business. Starting my own business is the only way I would continue working though. I've always wanted to own my own business. The ability to be my own boss would be the one thing that would make me happy. Otherwise, I'd rather not continue working.

Being healthy is the wealth of life.....that's my opinion.

In a scene from "The Magnificent Seven" (1960) in which Charles Bronson is approached to work as a hired gun, Bronson responds, "Right now, twenty dollars is a lot. ...

The amount is all relative to the person(s) - but I wouldn't believe someone that had money in the bank, a house, 2 cars, etc; saying they aren't rich.

In response to chouquounette

I certainly agree with Chou...without good health, you have absolutely nothing! Your wealth foundation starts with good health!!!  I Agree!

Maybe not "filthy rich", but I'd say being rich would certainly mean being able to buy what you want when you want it, paying cash for it- and rising above a paycheck to paycheck existence.

I knew a lady that was rich.  She told me that the best thing about being rich was the ability to go into a nice clothing store and look at their best dresses and not have to look at the price tag!

If one achieves success in life they would be comfortably wealthy.

Being healthy is the ultimate rich, as far as cash goes 100 million is rich for real

justxploring's avatar - villiarna

Being healthy is my number 1 choice.  I can't imagine trading good health for money.   However, money is important too. If you are not rich, no matter how healthy you are, you can get sick some day and then you'll need lots of money!

I disagree with TrueCritic, but I don't want to get into a long argument.  If 2 people own a home and have 2 cars in the garage and a little money in the bank, but they work long hours to pay the bills and save for retirement, they're not exactly rich by any standards. If I had those things, I'd be grateful of course, but rich? No way. When you need to work for a living and can lose everything you have if your job is eliminated, that's far from being wealthy.  There are plenty of people in FL who were getting along just fine and then the taxes and insurance rates went through the roof or they lost their health insurance at work or lost their jobs.  Now they're struggling to make ends meet and there are For Sale signs everywhere.  I wouldn't call those people "rich."

Sorry - I said wasn't going to post a long answer and then I did.

for my just my self

rich means Health and i own ever toy i could ever desire

toys =anything like cars,a halicoptor, every game out on the 360,ps3, hd tvs, anything with a clip in it.

you get the idea

now for rich as relates to comparing my self to other humans

rich would be=

the power to get away with anything

using human greed  to get my way

the greedy for money that is, thats when your rich

when people work for you, do as you say for part of your money

buying anyone time/work

such as am so freaking rich i have a assistance

who if ordered to drives down to the state border and brigns back lotto tickets

or packs up the food i want

or drives my pet to and back form the vet

or drives me around, i read a book/watch dvd and he drives!

thats whats i call rich!

hitting the megamillons?
hitting the powerball?
hitting the pick 4?

Hitting any of the Lotteries may put a few dollars in my pocket for a moment, but it wouldn't buy me what makes me rich

Having good health would be nice, but high blood pressure or not still would not give me the riches I enjoy everyday

sailing the tropics?
Since I don't care much for boats and I keep a salt water aquarium, I can have the tropics in my home and still be rich

a farm?
I grew up on a farm, hardest work I ever did and I was very rich then, but still not as rich as I am now

For me, fishing is a solitary act. Something one does to escape the madness even if all one does is drop a hook in a puddle of muddy water for a few hours. This isn't what being rich is to me.

Another solitary act and these days, there is no sport left in hunting, so why bother.

going to the bathroom?
One can do that on the side of a road, how could that make one rich?

That's can get that about anytime anywhere for about any price.

No, rich for me is not about wealth. It's not about what I can do or say. It's not about who I could or couldn't have sex with. It's not even about having good or bad health.

No, rich for me is having a Family.
A Wife who is there even when I tend to be late.
A Step-Daughter who loves me in spite of what she says, I know she does by her actions and when she introduces me to her friends as her Dad.

I may not be the healthiest or the wealthiest around. I may not have gone fishing in a while or had sex that often, but I believe I am the Richest person on this site and no dollar sign will ever change that.

Rich is not worrying about the food prices jumping in price every week (such as milk, its going up 10 cents every two weeks), not worrying when experts predict that gas willl be 10 dollars one day. having enough money to retire so as one need not worry if one loses their job and is unable to find another one.

I've been thinking about this since codmander posted the question.  Last weekend as I was dreading fixing the toilet (waterlogged float) and running to jiggle the knob on the washer to get it to advance to the next cycle, it came to me.  Rich to me would be to live in a house where everything works, and if something doesn't work, to be able to just call someone up to fix it without having to think about how much it's gonna cost or what I'm going to have to give up this month to afford the repair.

Lilly, you really hit home with that remark.  Yup!  I had to sell my home in NH when my company downsized, so now I rent. For a couple of years I've had problems with my plumbing - not talking about my personal plumbing...that's another story. LOL - I mean the plumbing  in my home.

I realize I shouldn't have commented on an earlier post, and I apologize since this is a poll, not a debate, and each one of us has a right to his or her opinion.  My next door neighbors think I'm rich because they have 8 people living in the same 3 room apartment with 1 bathroom.  So it's all relative, isn't it?

To me, being rich is being truly content.
