Grannie wins twice on the same entry

A 79-year-old grandmother of four, from Dee Why in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, is a double Lotto millionaire after picking up two First Division prize wins on the same four-game entry in last night’s $21 million Saturday Lotto Super draw.

She won the First Division prize of $1,166,666.67 twice, scoring a total of $2,333,333.34. There were three other unregistered winners from NSW who purchased their entries at the Sydney suburbs of Penrith and Five Dock, and from Albury on the NSW-Victoria border.

They were among 18 First Division winners from around the country, with five from Queensland, four from Western Australia, and two each from Victoria and South Australia.

Not surprisingly, the Dee Why grandmother was having trouble believing her own luck when she was contacted with the good news by a NSW Lotteries official this morning.

“I still can’t believe I put in those two rows. Those are the same numbers I’ve been using since Lotto first opened. I know the numbers off by heart, I don’t even have to look at them because they are all based on family birthdays,” the shocked winner said.

“They’d just put out those new entry forms, so I had to put my favourite numbers on the new form. I cannot understand why I put in an extra line. It’s the first time I’ve ever done it and I don’t remember even putting it in. It must have been my lucky day yesterday or there’s someone up there looking after me,” she said.

The winner said that her first thoughts were to help her family.

“Apart from taking an overseas holiday that we could never afford before, I’m not sure what else to do at the moment. I can assure you that the money won’t be wasted, it will be very well spent,” she said.

The winning entry, which cost just $2.30 for the minimum four games, was purchased at Dee Why Newsagency at 20 Howard Avenue, Dee Why. Newsagency owner Andrew Marnoch was astounded when informed of the news by a NSW Lotteries official this morning.

“I’m shocked, so I can imagine how the winner feels – it just goes to show when you’re meant to win you’re meant to win and we congratulate her,” Mr Marnoch said.

Gee, I make mistakes all the time.  Why can't mine have such a fortuitous result? Wink

Must be a side benefit of astigmatism.

it pays to play your own numbers.i play mine faithfully......

Another winning granny??  Do they have some kind of special technique for picking winning numbers??

I have a theory that unclaimed winning tickets are due to old people dying on realising they've won the jackpot. Dead
