Powerball Jackpot Rockets to $215 Million

Powerball

Nineteen lottery players across the nation were just one ball shy of winning the world's largest current lottery jackpot Wednesday night. The ball those players were missing was the Powerball.

There were no Powerball jackpot winners, but an incredible 1,175,278 prizes were paid out for a total of more than $9.3 million worth of winnings in America's Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Wednesday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $215 million.

The cash option for the Saturday, October 9 drawing will be an estimated $117.3 million.

The numbers drawn were: 5, 6, 19, 44, 50 and the Powerball was 28. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Nineteen players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Connecticut (3), Indiana (2), Kansas, Kentucky (3), Minnesota, Missouri (2), Pennsylvania (5), Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Sixty-eight players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Two additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $20,000.

Over 100,000 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 4. Winners were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

This current jackpot run started with the Wednesday, August 18 drawing. The drawing on Wednesday night was the 15th consecutive draw without being hit.

Players purchased more than $47 million in tickets between Wednesday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects.

Being on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin I play both Mega Millions and Powerball and it has been a Looooooong time since either state has had a big winner.... Meanwhile other states have had many winners.... EX: Ind had winners 2 drawings in a row, then the amother state won then Ind won a 3rd time....

Recently Minn had 2 PB winners and a Hot Lotto winner...

Come on (whining), it's our turn.........

$215+ Mill would be nice to Win...

Will this run go to $300+ Mill?

That's nice to know.

I just like the fact that just to "create" more excitement PB doesnt change their drawing location like MM.  Everytime MM has changed their drawing location to NY to create more excitement for the game someone has won the jackpot that draw.  I like it that PB sticks with one drawing location.

Powerball hasn't had remote draws?

Hey all,  I didn't buy a tictet tonight!!  I have been in the bed sick with the flu!  I have always purchased my groups powerball tickets.  Since I was sick I asked my sister to pick them up for me.  Well guess what, right she didn't get them!  $215 million and she didn't get to the store on time!  We have been playing as a group for nealy 6 years and she couldn't even leave a party on time to buy a ticket!!  I bet she didn't forget to buy her milk, bread and gas!  Yes, I am going off the wall here!  Oh gosh please pass the TheraFlu!
