The jackpot in America's favorite lottery game is nearing the $100 million mark. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 557,188 players across the nation won a total of more than $5.2 million in prizes in America's Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $95 million. That's the largest current lottery jackpot in the country.

The cash option for the Wednesday, September 22 drawing will be an estimated $52.3 million.

The numbers drawn were: 2, 14, 27, 31, 36 and the Powerball was 9. The Power Play multiplier was 4.

Eleven players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Arizona (2), Connecticut (2), Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee (2), and Wisconsin. One of the winning Connecticut players purchased the Power Play option. By spending the extra dollar, that player was able to multiply their prize by 4 for a total win of $400,000.

Forty-nine players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. One of those players purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $20,000.

Almost 67,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 4 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than 19.4 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2 billion in Powerball tickets in 2003. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

If no one wins this Wednesday, I may consider a trip to Indiana to cash in my $3 winner from August 14.  It's hard to believe it may be time for another trip so soon.
