After Jean Delouche won millions from the Florida Lottery, he turned to Claude St. Jean for financial advice.
St. Jean, a former MetLife salesman from Tampa, is accused of stealing more than $375,000 from brokerage and other accounts Delouche established with MetLife, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court.
St. Jean, of 14919 Redcliff Drive, is charged with using the mail to defraud. It is not clear how Delouche met St. Jean.
According to the complaint filed by Postal Inspector Kacy McClelland, Delouche lives in Port St. Lucie and won $10 million in the lottery, choosing to take a $6 million lump sum payment.
According to Leslie Steele, a spokeswoman for the Florida Lottery, Delouche, who lived in east Naples at the time, won a $22 million lottery jackpot and took a $10.9 million lump sum. He purchased the ticket June 21, 2000, in Naples.
An August 2000 story by Scripps Howard News Service described Delouche as shy and fearful of losing a house he had received from Habitat for Humanity.
According to the federal complaint, St. Jean was ``voluntarily terminated'' by MetLife in April for violating company policy prohibiting sales agents from being trustees of their customers' accounts.
St. Jean could not be reached Wednesday evening.
Delouche used more than $4 million of his lottery winnings to open nine accounts at MetLife, according to the complaint, which doesn't give dates for when the accounts were established or whether St. Jean was involved in the transactions.
The complaint against St. Jean says he is accused of posing as Delouche several times and asking that withdrawals be made from Delouche's accounts. At one point, Delouche was in New York and not home to receive a check mailed to there.
St. Jean also is accused of trying to change the address of record for one of Delouche's accounts to St. Jean's home address and trying to have a $250,000 check mailed to his home.
That check did not make it because Federal Express couldn't deliver it during the watch for Hurricane Charley, the federal complaint says.

regardless of st. jean did it or not, deloche needs to learn to get his stories straight.
