A clerk at the back of a North Bennington, Vermont variety store might have thought he was being robbed, when really a customer was just shouting with excitement over winning the lottery.

"I guess I must have let out a yell after checking the numbers several times," said Scott Harrington, a resident of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., who hit it big over the weekend when he won $55,555 playing the Vermont Lottery's instant game "Fortune 5's."

Harrington purchased several instant game tickets at the North Bennington Variety Store on Saturday after initially stopping in to purchase a Powerball ticket.

"My wife suggested a scratch ticket instead," he said.

He scratched the "Fortune 5's" ticket in the store.

Harrington said he thought he might use the money to pay off some bills and make house repairs.

The North Bennington Variety Store will receive a bonus from the Vermont Lottery Commission for their part in selling the Fortune 5's winning ticket.
