Euro Millions

A British woman who scooped the biggest ever EuroMillions jackpot was said Monday to be "pretty shocked".

Marion Richardson won £16.7 million in the lottery which runs across the UK, France and Spain.

It is the first time the jackpot has been won in the UK since the competition was launched in February.

Ms Richardson, a former postal worker, lives with her partner in Winlaton, Tyneside.
Her partner, who did not want to be named, said: "We have had loads of calls from people wishing her luck.

"We are all just pretty shocked at the moment."

Friday's winning ticket has landed the sixth richest prize in British lottery history.

The biggest British lottery winners are Mark Gardiner and Paul Maddison, of Hastings, East Sussex, who scooped £22.6m in June, 1995.

Euro Millions links the UK's national lottery to equivalent games in France and Spain.
