Man to bet all on Vegas roulette spin

Gambling

A British man who has sold all his possessions, including his clothes, will stand in a rented tuxedo on Sunday and bet everything on a single spin of the roulette wheel.

If he wins, he doubles his money. If he loses, he will be left with only the television crew documenting his every move.

Ashley Revell, a 32-year-old Londoner, said he was worth about 75,000 pounds ($138,000) after he sold everything in March.

"I thought I was worth at least 100,000 pounds," he said in a telephone interview from Las Vegas, where he is putting in a week gambling about $3,000 in a bid to raise his pot.

By Wednesday, he was down $1,000.

Revell said he had planned to have a friend videotape his bet-it-all spin, but Britain's Sky One television decided it was worth a short reality series, called "Double or Nothing."

Sky will not pay him, he says, but a crew has followed his preparation and will cover the spin live on Sunday at the Hard Rock casino in Las Vegas. It also plans to follow him for a month afterward, win or lose.

Revell, recently a professional gambler, said he decided to take a big plunge while he was still young and raised the stakes as high as possible, including selling his clothes.

"I like to do things properly," he said.

He had not decided yet whether to place his money or red or black on Sunday afternoon.

"I don't know, man," he said. "One of them is going to be the right thing to say and one is going to be the wrong thing."

He added that if he won he would probably take his winnings rather than spin again.

What a dope this guy is betting his whole stake on a bet that house a house edge over five percent.  I hope zero or double zero shows up.  A hand of blackjack, banker in baccarat, or dont pass in craps are the way to go if he wanted to do this.

Wish I was in Canada to buy some super sevens, hopefully it rolls over to next week!

I believe it will be a large jackpot again next week because of a planned series of bonus draws. I called their help line to get the details but it is closed today (holiday).

Good luck,
Jake

CASH Only

Don't European roulette wheels have only 0 (no 00)?

Yes just 0 (no 00). This bet is stupid. The casino must love it.

what about a coin toss?

This *already happened*.

What this guy is doing is not that new.

Several years ago, a man showed up in a Vegas casino with a suitcase full of cash. He bet it all on *one* roll of the roulette wheel.

And WON.

I don't have any of the details. I do recall that within the past five years I was reading a book and was surprised to find this story given some detail in it. Originally, years earlier, I'd heard the story on the radio -- probably on Paul Harvey.

If I recall correctly, the *same* guy showed up years later to do it *again.* I don't recall the outcome for that one, however.

I hope this guy wins!

And how big a winner have *you* been in your life?

I'd rather cheer a winner than console a chronic loser.

yeah, I almost forgot about him over the weekend, but I'd knew I'd hear it on Monday morning news.  Congratulations.  (For those who didn't know, he went Red.  Newscaster said he walked away with double, of course, about $276,000.  Hope he had the sense to walk away.  that's how one would really win.  But he had fun, and that's what counts.  (It's always more fun to win)

Yeah, not quite a coin toss, ther's the green spaces.
