A 17-year-old girl has become one of Britains youngest Lotto winners after scooping £1.5 million, it was confirmed Sunday.

Lisa Dougan, from Torphichen, West Lothian, hit the jackpot in last Wednesday nights draw.

The lucky teenager will pick up her £1,568,212 cheque at Glasgows Hilton Hotel today.

A spokeswoman for Camelot said they were contacted yesterday and verified Lisas lucky numbers of 5, 16, 30, 38, 42 and 43. She shared the jackpot with one other winner.

The teenager, who is on a sport and leisure course at West Lothian College in Livingston, was yesterday celebrating her win with a family friend.

She will be taken by chauffeur-driven car from her home this morning before picking up her cheque at noon.

The Camelot spokeswoman said: We are absolutely thrilled for her, as we are for all our winners.

The youngest Lotto winner was Tracey Makin, who was 16 when she won £1,055,171 in January, 1998, while the youngest Scottish winner was 17-year-old Stuart Donnelly from Glasgow, who won £1.9 million in November, 1997.

The spokeswoman added: This young girl is one of our top six youngest winners.

i think the lotteries should do a competency check, if the winner is under 21,  before handing out the check.  that way, they know the money would be going to someone who would spend it wisely.  my idea is to do a mental health test to the winner to see if the money would be better off in the hands of the winner's parents or in a trust fund.  if i were the parents of a lottery winner, and i knew they would piss it away within a year, i wouldn't let them have it.
