More than 1,100 people won Ohio's "Pick Four" lottery with the numbers 1111, causing one bank to run out of money while trying to pay multiple winners.
It's the largest payout in Pick Four history.
Ronald Jones has two tickets worth a total of $10,000. He stood in line at National City with 50 others Monday morning to cash the tickets.
But he says the bank ran out of money and he doesn't want to wait much longer.
"Not very patient, but I mean I will be patient if they need me to be," said Jones. "I'm off Thursday, Friday, Saturday, so I have plenty of time to go spend it."
The Ohio Lottery Commission says that National City handed out cashier's checks for free so that the winners could go elsewhere to get their money. But any ticket worth more than $5,000 has to be cashed at lottery headquarters.
1111 - $4,042,500 payout was almost 20 times the $218,171.50 sales!
1212 - 2nd highest payout of $3,318,400
0111 - 3rd highest payout of $1,610,974
So for fixed-prize lotteries, it's OK to pick your favourite sequences, but for parimutuel lotteries, you should try to pick rare combinations so there will be less winners to share the limited prize pool with.

i agree with the rare combinations...and even with the bigger jackpot games; techniques such as including one or more numbers greater than 31 separates your ticket from that huge 'birthday-anniversary' crowd

It's always nice to hear someone cashing in their tickets for that kind of money.
If you win, remember to save those losing winning tickets for tax time, next year.
a run on
Ohio's Pick 4 has fixed prizes instead of parimutuel. As you can read at http://lottery.ohio.gov/press_releases/2004%20archive/030804a.html, when popular sequences are drawn, there are so many winners that the lottery commission actually lose a lot of money!

If you pick a winner at all, it's rare no matter how many other winners you have to share the prize with.

I totally agree.
Personally I don't play pick 3 or pick 4 games.
The facts: March 6, 2004 was the first time in the Ohio Lottery history that the quad number 1111 was drawn.
Other quads drawn:
Nov. 18, 2003 5555
July 7, 1990, and Sept. 26. 1991 6666
Thats the total drawn since the pick 4 game started in 1979.
Pick 3 & 4 games are terrible in my opinion.
Play responsibly and have fun, Chas
