Powerball

Spring fever may be right around the corner but lottery players across the nation are crazy about Powerball right now. There were no Powerball jackpot winners Saturday but 405,439 players across the nation won a total of more than $2.6 million in prizes in America's Game.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $61 million.

The cash option for the Wednesday, March 3 drawing will be an estimated $33 million.

The numbers drawn were: 6, 25, 26, 52, 53, and the Powerball was 40. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Four players correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $100,000. The tickets were sold in Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and West Virginia. None of the winners purchased the Power Play option. If they had, they would have multiplied their prize by 2 for a total win of $200,000.

Twenty-four players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Five of those players purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $10,000.

More than 48,000 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 2 Saturday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased more than 15.3 million tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold more than $2 billion in Powerball tickets in 2003. That translates into more than $600 million for worthwhile state projects.

they always fail to mention how many players won absolutely nothing...

Since the overall odds of having a winning combination is 1:36, you can figure that there were 35 losing combinations for every winning one.  If the average player spend $5 then there were seven  that won nothing for everyone that won something unless the average player spent more the $5.  But then I would assume that the players that spent more were more likely to win something and the players that spent less weren't really expecting to win anything unless they got lucky. Thats why they call it gambling.
