$7 million jackpot could roll down to lower prize tiers

The estimated cash value of the jackpot for the final Super 6 Lotto drawing on Tuesday, January 27, 2004, is $7 million.  All Super 6 prize money will be distributed in this final drawing.

If no one wins the jackpot prize on January 27, the cash value of the jackpot will be shared proportionately by second-, third- and fourth-tier winners as estimated in the table below.  Money allocated to each prize category will be divided equally among the winners in that category.

Match Prize Pool* Payout
If Jackpot is NOT hit on Jan. 27
6 0.0% 0.00%
5 33.33% $3,069,868**
4 31.25% $2,878,289**
3 35.42% $3,262,368**
* The Prize Pool is 52% of the total amount of money that players
wagered (gross sales) on a particular Super 6 Lotto drawing.
** These prize pool figures were estimated based on sales
predictions for the final drawing.  Actual prize pool figures may
vary.

Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery Ed Mahlman said the Lottery decided to reward loyal Super 6 players by rolling down the jackpot prize into lower tiers for the final drawing.

"If no one wins the jackpot in the final Super 6 drawing, many of the games players will win significant prizes for matching three, four or five winning numbers," Mahlman said.

Mahlman stressed that the jackpot roll-down will take place only if the Super 6 Lotto jackpot is not won in the Tuesday, January 27, 2004, drawing.

I know this was a special circumstance, but now that MegaMillions & Powerball have put the squeeze on single state jackpot games, this is how single state jackpot games should be run all the time. If no one wins by a certain number of drawings or jackpot amount, split the jackpot among the 2nd prize winners. It would still give people a chance to win the jackpot, and it would make it a lot more fun.  These games can't compete with the MM & PB on jackpot now, they need something different and appealing.  It doesn't do much for me to say 1 in 5 million odds are so much better than 1 in 135 million odds.

I read on here that MA 6/42 and MA 6/49 are going to be combined into one game.  Would it be too advanced for them to do something like this?

CASH Only

Michigan Winfall has a $5 million cap.

I suppose Mass could hold their final 6/42 and 6/49 draws this way...of course, I would prefer no jackpot winners for a DIFFERENT reason...

tg, i totally agree,

...just this past weekend I've decided to quit playing our single state Megabucks 6/49 and instead use the dollars I save from that game to buy Powerball 'Powerplay' option. It's sad saying goodbye to the old Megabucks game but I can no longer justify playing it when the Jackpot hangs there in suspended animation and takes forever to get anywhere. I don't like the prize payout levels either when compared to Powerball. I just wish I would have spent that Megabucks money on 'Powerplay' last year. Despite the higher odds, Powerball has given me many times the prizes than 6/49 Megabucks ever has and I've always played them together. For Heaven's sake...I sure wish we had HotLotto.

GEt your souvenier Super 6 tickets.  Nice article in Today's Philly Daily News that confirms the truth.  Powrball blew this game out.  Actually, Super 6 wasn't that popular to begin with.  The new Match 6 should be better and offer the Jackpots that Super 6 was only able to scrape up post powerball.  I don't think anyone will miss Super 6.  $2Powerplay was better, I agree, better chance at smaller prizes.

A jackpot Roll Down game would be nice.  Delaware had one a few years ago.  (Part of MUSL).  Perhaps the state that offers 6/49 megabucks can consider roll down or the format as in Match 6.  Which will fit nicely with in the range of Powerball prizes.

Florida's Fantasy 5 and Missouri's Show Me 5 Paydown are the only two jackpot rolldown games I'm aware of.

I have $20 worth of tickets for the last ride...

6/69 really didn't offer better odds than the Powerball's, but PA liked to post fantasy odds for it. To get the true odds, multiply what PA said by 3, comes out to almost 120million to 1, just a fraction better than the powerball 5+1.

As for the match 6...

2 modes of play...

1.. match on a single line OR 2.. match on all 3 lines per ticket. THe brochure they put out today specifies a few key points...

A. Drawings will be Tuesday and Friday, an exact replacement for stupid6

B. In either prize tier (one line or all lines), you get paid for the HIGHEST match prize level only. If you match 8 ($50), you do NOT also get paid for matching 7, 6, 5 and 4 ($25+$10+$5+$2=$42 plus the $50 would be $92, but not in this case). Be sure you are aware of that to avoid arguments at the retailer... matching 8 ONLY pays for matching 8, period.

C. (good news) It will be an ALL LUMP SUM game, minimum jackpot will be $500,000.

D. you can only pick one of the 3 lines per ticket... I can just imagine some of those QP's, hope they don't use the same generator as the stupid6...

good luck for all those in on the last stupid6 and the first match6!

I meant they should hold all drawings this way.

I don't know why anyone matching 8 would think they also get to match 7, 6, 5, & 4, but I guess PA was worried about that if it's in the brochure.

HOWEVER, if you match 3 out of 6 on one line and say an additional 5 numbers on the other 2 lines, you DO win $2 for the 3 out of 6 PLUS $50 for matching the 8 total, for a grand total of $52.

CASH Only -

Sure is - my mistake. Probably I missed it because all payments are pari-mutuel but I need to make a note of it on my page. Thanks.

Still trying to figure out for sure, how one would match 7 , 8, 9, or 10 or more as explained in the brochure.  Apparently, thw two extra lines generated must have numbers matching the first 6 before the drawing.  Lotto within a lotto.  Reward for duplicate numbers, if hit.  Did any one ese notice that the Combo play odds seem high for the prizes given.?  I didn't actually look anc compare, but how would these compare to the same amont won on a (say $2 ) scratch ticket.?  Over all odds on Match 6 are 1 in 6 tickets, so it may be OK.

I'll play and encourage my pool mates to do the same.  Still will get those power play tickets for a shot at the big one.  Hope i don't turn out like happy jack in St. Alban's.  Nah, not a chance.

I windered that myself, but figured it was worth posting... I thought it was just common knowledge... like matching 3+PB pays $100 not adding the 3, 2+1, 1+1 and 1pb... who knows... they must have anticipated confusion about it tho, they used CAPS in that section...

Agree, I think it's understood, too; but there are still those people who would think...  Of course, only individual line play and total combo play are added.  Pamphlet did a nice job of condensing official rules from Pa. Bulletin.  Still, it should have shown how 7 or more matches can occur.  Your example is right, if duplicate numbers are generated by computer on 2 and 3rd lines.  Guess Cash only was right how that would occur.

Also, even though I like extra chance gimmicks, still agree that games have to be kept simple for most who as the old saying goes:  "Lotteries are a tax for those who don't understand math."

Needless to say, I think most of us do, but have fun with it anyway.
