A Des Moines police officer is starting the new year with a bigger paycheck after claiming a Hot Lotto jackpot worth more than $1.6 million.
Danny Good, a 27-year Des Moines police veteran, claimed the money today after winning on December 20th.
The 50-year-old Good chose a lump-sum payment of 989-thousand dollars. He says he'll pay off his debts and give some of the money to his mom and a brother and sister.
Good says he doesn't plan to buy anything extravagant and he says he will continue working.
Good is the fourth Iowa Lottery player to win a Hot Lotto jackpot since the game began in April 2002. Hot Lotto is similar to Powerball but players have a better chance of winning.
