Mega Millions

A Monmouth County woman has claimed a $12 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot.

Cindy Wilson had the only winning ticket for the Oct. 7 drawing, lottery officials said Monday.  Wilson, a Neptune Township resident who works as an engineer, was attending a business meeting in Tampa, Fla., when she checked her ticket against the winning numbers printed in a newspaper.

Needless to say, they finished the meeting without me, Wilson said in a prepared statement issued Monday by the New Jersey Lottery.

Wilson chose to receive annual payments of $461,000, and she got her first check -- for more than $350,000, after federal taxes were taken out -- on Monday.  If she had chosen to receive a lump-sum payment, she would have been paid more than $5.2 million after taxes.

Wilson purchased her winning ticket at Ricks Wine & Liquor in Neptune on the day of the drawing.  The stores owner, Virendra Patel of Farmingdale, will receive $10,000 as the vendor of the winning ticket.
