Insider Buzz

Columbus, Georgia police are talking about an unusual late-night break-in at a convenience store -- unusual because of what was taken.

Officers say someone broke through a glass door around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Citgo station on Veterans Parkway at River Road. But all he stole was a machine for printing lottery tickets, and two rolls of scratch-off tickets valued at $600.  Trouble was, a getaway driver reportedly drove away, leaving the burglar behind.

Police chased down and arrested a possible suspect in the area of 38th Street.  No name was available Tuesday morning.  Officers note this case fits a pattern in several recent break-ins, where the burglar uses a "slingshot" approach by tossing a brick with a towel through a door or window.

By the way, officers say it doesn't do any good to steal a lottery computer -- as you can't print tickets at home.
