The Tennessee Lottery Board is working on the official application for convenience stores interested in selling lottery tickets.

The board expects to ask convenience stores to apply in the next two weeks.  Convenience stores must meet certain criteria, and they must agree to a criminal background check.

The lottery board expects 3,500 to 4,000 stores to sell tickets.

"I think its going to be great for business.  I support the lottery 100%.  It's good for our state.  Its good for education and its good for business - the bottom line," said Patsy Smiley, a store owner.

Nearly 600 stores have already contacted the lottery board using the Internet to say they want to sell tickets.

The board is preparing a publicity campaign to encourage others to apply.
