Mega Millions

A Savannah family turned in a winning ticket on Monday for a Mega Millions jackpot worth $50 million.

Richard Mika, his wife, Robin, and their two daughters selected the cash option for Fridays drawing, which amounted to $28 million before taxes. The lottery will withhold 31 percent of that for taxes.

Richard Mika, a Savannah Water Department employee, was remodeling his home on Saturday when he decided to call the Georgia Lottery hotline to check his numbers.

I keep waiting for someone to pinch me and tell me Im dreaming, Mika said.

Mika and his family said they plan to use the money to buy some new cars and a new home.
The winning ticket, a Quik Pik ticket, was sold Friday at Derenne 7-11 in Savannah. The winning numbers were 6-9-35-40-43 and the Mega Ball was 42.

The store will receive $25,000.
