MARTINSVILLE, NJ — For our newest video, Lottery Post did some digging on some of the most infamous lottery winners in history.

"Infamous lottery winners — Part 1" takes a close look at ten lottery winners who did not benefit from winning the lottery or made some questionable choices with their winnings that spelled disaster.

When the footage was finally put together, the video turned out to be longer than anticipated. Rather than cut back on important details and quality, we decided to break down our list into two separate videos, with Part 2 to be released in the future.

WATCH: Infamous lottery winners — Part 1

You might recognize some familiar names such as Andrew "Jack" Whittaker and David Lee Edwards, but who else made the cut?

To see who made our list of infamous lottery winners, visit Lottery Post's official YouTube channel. Be sure to tell us in the comments what you think about those notorious players, who you think deserves a mention, and what you would have done differently had YOU won.

Job well done. Waiting on the next one. It certainly gives a better insight

of how some winners handle a life changing moment.

Watched part 1.  Too bad the media seem to only tell the tales of the winners that meet tragic ends.

By the way - the statistic quoted in this video that 70% of lottery winners go broke within five years is false. That statistic

was put out by one group and became an internet myth propagated in the media. A little more online research shows the actual

number is closer to one third of winners go broke.

News clip-

What Percentage of Lottery Winners Go Bankrupt?

  • The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) denies that 70 percent of lottery winners end up bankrupt within five years
  • after receiving a large financial windfall. This is an incorrect statistic that has been credited to the organization by Time, Fortune Magazine
  • and many others.
  • Lottery winners are more likely to declare bankruptcy within three-to-five years than the average American (CFPBS).
  • Nearly one-third of lottery winners eventually declare bankruptcy (CFPBS).

"Too bad the media seem to only tell the tales of the winners that meet tragic ends."

The media doesn't exist to write stories for the sake of writing stories. Once the winner has their money and the initial story dies down a story about how they successfully managed their money is barely more interesting than a story about how you or I manage our money. Stories like that don't get clicks or sell advertising, and that means they don't generate revenue, so you won't find many of them. Stories about Jack Whittaker or David Lee Edwards, OTOH, are lottery car wrecks, and people are going to slow down and take a look. There's a reason we've all heard the saying that "If it bleeds it leads."

Congratulations Kate on a great video. You gave us much more info than I had ever heard before. For example, i remember part of the story of DeeDee Moore who murdered Shakespeare down in Florida, but I had no idea that she had tried to bribe the family members to not turn her in. That takes some nerve. And the mind-boggling stupidity of David Lee Edwards just leaves me speechless. Thanks so much for this, we love this type of content.

Does Lottery post hire UK residents?

And if so, are they able to apply for a job as a UK reporter and work from home?

That was very interesting, I learned things I wasnt aware of.  And I had the stories of Bud Post and Jack Whittaker confused.  I think I need to listen to it again.  How sad for those winners but I hope it isnt the majority.  The one thing I picked up is if you win keep your mouth shut, dont flaunt your winnings and keep to yourself.

Is the woman telling these stories Mrs. Chief Bottle Washer?  She is very pretty.

I enjoyed the video very informative, in the next video include stupid winners like the one in Georgia that won on a scratch ticket and used his winnings to start a Crystal Meth Distribution business in 2019 I think, now that's a story people want to know about.

You will never hear from the smart Lottery winners.

Sure can't put Laarni Bibal in there since

i am the winner.

i viewed the Laarni Bibal

Lotterypost channel 10 broadcast had not seen that

she had a factory job yeah friends that knew her that worked with her yeah yeah i see that an apartment manager and a lease and enough smarts to erase everything digitally saying there was a Laarni Bibal in California and not the one working in a factory in NewJersey yeah yeah true so yeah

two years and California Lottery's staunch defense that they have no claim from me sorry sir. Laarni Bibal

That fifty-five cent stamp just could not get that piece of mail from downtown Sacramento to the Headquarters even though i have never had a piece of mail lost. i had just signed it an hour earlier at the dingy little cage -like claim office heck if they not gonna roll out a red carpet i should have stayed in San Diego but i know the mail can get it to Headquarters and then i could deal with actual administrators and not some hourly flunkies at a window.

Nope, gone no record of your claim. sorry.

Ole Laarni was doing the same thing at the same time in Sacramento anyway and just the day my ticket should arrive at Headquarters September 17th 2019 after placing it in the outgoing post September 12th 2019 up popped Laarni and snatched the jackpot so she is the winner it is not me two years and all the denials and chiding by the California Lottery we need a copy sir you need a copy to claim the jackpot.

if a copy is all i had you think that gonna get the money we need video footage, time of claim, financial documents from the controller proving at least a payment to laarni all kinds if stuff now stuff out of a laymen's hand and all cloaked and sealed up anyway. sorry sir.

THEY STOLE THIS JACKPOT

You think it is because my RealID says 299 17th st san diego CA 92101i it does have a goldbear and star. i mean California lotterywould not take advantage of that would they. Not when the commission changed the mail in claim process in November 2019 to just sign the ticket drop in mail receive check eliminating all the bothersome claim steps.

naah.

well if you find a picture of this Laarni Bibal then she is infamous because she is ficticious. which begs why did California lottery choose that name if ahe was not real.

To bad she is tobusy to take down all the fake pictures and digital charity scams that are in her name

Must be to busy spending my jackpot.
