Canada Lotto Max

He waited nearly 10 months to claim his lottery winnings because, he said, he felt so overwhelmed by the size of his luck.

Bon Truong, of Edmonton, Canada, had been playing the same lottery numbers for decades by the time he netted $60 million last fall, CTV News reported. He woke up the day after the Oct. 26 Lotto Max draw and saw that his ticket had won the jackpot, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation said in a statement.

Then Truong paused. He went to a local store and asked the clerk to print the winning numbers so he could make sure he had really won.

Truong said he looked back and forth at the printout and his ticket for hours. The numbers, which represented important dates and family birthdays, matched: 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 20 and 30.

"I started to think about what this win would mean for my family," Truong said, according to the statement. "I realized it's going to change a lot of things and I wanted to make sure we were all ready and prepared for those changes."

This month, Truong finally felt ready to claim his winnings. He said he plans to pay all his bills, buy a new home, save some money and take his family on a vacation.

"I'm not sure where just yet," Truong said, according to the statement. "I think we'll try to go everywhere!"

After that trip, Truong said at a news conference, he plans to return to his job landscaping. And he doesn't intend to tell his children about his newfound fortune just yet.

"I'm still young. I'm still strong," Truong said. "After I'm done (with) this — everything done — I'll be back to work."

Truong immigrated to Canada from Vietnam more than 30 years ago, CTV News reported. He and his family arrived without much money, his niece Mina Truong said at the news conference.

"Coming here with nothing after the Vietnam War and... working very hard," Mina Truong said, "you're just really happy for them."

WTG Bon!

Imagine his patience playing the same #'s for 30 years since immigrating to Canada from Vietnam.   Perseverance paid off for him big time and TAX FREE to boot.

He sure is healthy to return to his landscaping job--didn't specify that he was the owner.    Now he can start his own company if he so desires.

Congratulations once again!

That’s what I like to hear about. What patience he had and it paid off.

Nice!  Same numbers for 30 years, this is one of those rare instances where it wasn't way too easy for him to win!

That guy was just incredibly lucky.  With some games, you could technically play the same numbers every time for 1,000,000 years or more before you'd get a hitter.

Alot of folks i know do not play same. i m not gettin' that. i sure would.

Personally with lottery games, i rarely switch numbers, as with p4Party

(When i win in this game thousands in 1 draw,(multiple times a year) i win the p4... So i keep usually the "same combinations"  from multi-play of same pick 4 love it!)

if i ever play and it's quite sporadic, bigger games, as dad think its rigged as my mother think at times the same ,saying because, that only 1 or 2 people in U.S.A. win at each drawing, think it is enough for many to win, in all states (dad says if it was NOT rigged)

when you're paying out over 50 to 100 million and higher...

But if i do play at times, i keep same numbers.PartyCongrats! i love this story.

Hurray!

It just goes to show that any type of playing strategy can win a jackpot regardless how long it takes. Even 1-2-3-4-5-6 will eventually be drawn somewhere and maybe in several places, but the real trick is knowing "when".

Birthday numbers never change and logically an easy to remember self pick. IMO, the difference between them and QPs if you forget to play, you'll never know if the QP you didn't purchase was drawn.

Congratulations to Bon Truong and his family! Party

It does not appear that he is getting financial advice.

Going back to work could be a secret of staying sane after a major win.

Bon says " l realized it's going to change a lot of things ...and prepared for some changes.

To remain anonymous, Bon should  change his last name from Truong to Voyage.Approve

1,2,3,4,5,6 is as likely to be drawn in the next draw as any other combination of 6 numbers.

the real trick is being  the only person with that combination.... :)

This guy was a single winner (I assume.. they didn't say otherwise).. which is a bit of a surprise when all numbers are in the range 1-31 (days of the month).. these are more likely to be picked (so many people do pick birthdays.... which means numbers over 31 are picked by punters les often.

Oh.. Years ago, someone from the NZ Lotto said that about 3000 bought the combination 1,2,3,4,5,6 in each draw... (So, if it comes up.. on a $1m minimum 1st division prize pool.. everyone gets about $333)

Wow, Bon Truong was very patient playing his same set of number for 30 years. I see Canada has a different set of rules for how long a person can wait to claim their prize money. Bon Truong waited 10 months. Here in the U.S. I think in most states it is only 6 months, than the ticket expires.

Depends on the state and even then some have different time limits.   Recently on MA someone turned in some Mass Cash Tickets right under the 1 year rule.
