Mega Millions

By Todd Northrop

Someone could have had a few extra presents under the tree this year, had they checked their Mega Millions lottery ticket before Christmas.

A $1 million prize that was won in a June Mega Millions drawing went unclaimed, the Maryland Lottery confirmed on Monday.

The ticket was from the June 26 drawing, and was sold at the Tantallon Exxon located at 10815 Indian Head Highway in Fort Washington, Maryland. The winner needed to claim the prize by 4:15 on Christmas Eve in order to collect their money.

The winning numbers from that drawing were 17, 25, 29, 39, and 60, with Mega Ball number 19.

"All unclaimed money must go back to our players in the form of prizes and promotions," a spokesperson for Maryland Lottery said in an email.

Winning tickets sold in Maryland must be claimed within 182 days of the drawing date.

Three winning $1 million Mega Millions tickets have been sold in the state of Maryland this year.

How sad is that?

I Agree! and what will be really sad is if the winning ticket is found now. The winner could have claimed it anonymously if he or she wanted. Unhappy

It's amazing how frequently this occurs  Recently a winning lottery ticket was headed to the trash, until it was intercepted by a sibling.

I'm sad though for the MD., the family or person who just didn't take a minute or less to scan it at a store, and i am guilty of that a few x, even though i rarely play bigger games like this, premised on dad saying its a scam since only "1" guy or woman win over 100 million when they don't need to win all that and how more fifty to 100 people in all states should be able to win when its that HIGH dad say, but yea when i do play a few x every other month or so,

Smileyi would then gather ALL up in my car glove-box, the compartment or house or work office desk and i would definitely get em scan by a cashier, or myself... at least within a month or 2.

Welp, that's how life is.  It is still imo a lil' bit sad though for the winner who didn't get the big prize. My parents are not sad, they said, a fool, (dad say this all time when we read or hear on news about this)a fool for not checking it and had a long year or so. But, i still feel lil bit sad and bad for her... or him.

"How sad is that?"

It depends on whether or not whoever owned the ticket finds out it was a winner. It's sad that I don't find a million dollars every time I go out for a walk. It would be far sadder if I went out for a walk, saw a million dollars laying on the sidewalk, and then had it disappear just as I was about to pick it up.

The " loser" on finding out he passed on a million dollars, can always rewire his brain for just a fleeting moment and think that he lost that in a high stakes poker game in Vegas. Gotta come up with an excuse. .right?Dead

It will be interesting to see how MD Lottery does -- 'All unclaimed  money must go back to our players in the form of prizes and promotions,"'

If the Maryland Lottery wants to do something good for the lottery players, they should lower the 8.75% they take in state taxes for any win over $600. The only state higher is New York with 8.82%.

As far as promotions, all that means is, "Hey, we came up some new scratch off games!" BFD.

That's good. Give the money to someone with enough brain cells to actually check the ticket.

I got my info from USA MEGA. When I clicked your link it also said it's source was USA Mega. However your link was from March 2012. The link I have is from the same place but is from Jan. 2018 so things have changed since then.

Nope. The payouts when it first started were higher. I know they had $10. Thought they might even have had 20 or 25, but I'm not 100% positive about that.

So I don't think they're really going to do anything for us.  Thumbs Down

Big Joey

All it takes is for a person to check their number on the lottery's website before it's updated, then throw their ticket away thinking it's a loser, or a misplaced, or lost ticket.

The South Carolina billion dollar winner has not been claimed either. Dead
