PORTLAND, Oregon — A Portland man waiting to cash an Oregon Lottery Keno ticket for $1,750 decided to play another game of Keno.

That next game won him more than $118,000.

Sam Hawley took his $1,750 Special Keno 8-Spot ticket to the Oregon Lottery's payment center in Wilsonville, but he arrived before the center opened at 8:30 a.m.

While he waited, Hawley went to the nearby Fred Meyer store and purchased another Keno ticket. All eight of his numbers matched, winning him $25,000 with the 8-Spot rolling jackpot adding another $93,759.60.

Hawley also opted to play Special Keno, a free option, which expands the prize structure for larger prizes.

Hawley said he has used the same numbers on his Keno tickets for years.

He posed with his dog Louis when he collected his jackpot.

Sam Hawley used the same numbers he has been playing with for years. There could be something to this way of playing.

His dog could be just the right size for Sam.

Sam.........That is a very nice holiday win. Congrats to you on your $120K+ winnings. Hope  you and Louis have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

What kind of dog is Louis ? For a second I thought was a stuffed toy the lottery gave away

Yes they do Rock. That dog looks like a breed between a Brussel Griffon & a fox. Then again, he does look stuffed.

Congrats to Sam & Louis. Great hit!

Here in NY we have Quick Draw. It's a keno type game, but an 8 of 8 win pays only $10,000.

For an extra $1 per game, you can add the "extra" multiplier. After the numbers are drawn, a wheel spins and the multiplier is selected. It can be No Extra, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 10x. Most of the time it lands on 1x for NO EXTRA.

On Tuesdays, they offer POWER HOURS, where if you play the extra, they remove the NO EXTRA space. So, if you win a prize, there's no chance of it landing on NO EXTRA.

On Thursdays, they offer POWER HOURS, where if you play a minimum of $10 on one ticket, any prize you win will be 50% higher than the regular payout.

The only thing about Tuesday or Thursday Power Hours is you have to win a prize first before it can be multiplied!

I was hoping the article showed which 8 numbers Hawley played, but it's still pretty neat how he use his time waiting to collect his winnings to win again.

Take the money and run.  Or the lottery will eventually get it all back.
