NJ Lottery Pick 6 jackpot jumps to 9-year high

$21.3 million up for grabs Monday

By Todd Northrop

With the multi-state Mega Millions and Powerball lottery games stealing players' attention these days, New Jersey's popular Pick 6 game has been quietly rolling to levels seen around once a decade.

When nobody won Thursday's Pick 6 drawing, the new jackpot for Monday, Oct. 15 was set at $21.3 million.  It is the largest New Jersey Pick 6 jackpot since a $24.3 million jackpot was won on Jun. 4, 2009, making the current jackpot the largest in more than 9 years.

The current jackpot has been growing since Feb. 19, 2018 — an incredible 69 drawings without a jackpot winner.

Lottery Post publishes a history of jackpots for the game at its New Jersey Pick 6 Jackpot History page.

With the odds of winning the 6/49 game pegged at 1 in 13,983,816, New Jersey Pick 6 offers much better odds of a life-changing win than either Mega Millions or Powerball — games with odds of 1 in 302,575,350 and 1 in 292,201,338, respectively.

As is always the case for drawings with enormous jackpots, the lottery is urging players to buy their tickets early to avoid a last-minute rush.

Since the first Pick 6 ticket was sold on May 9, 1980, it continues to be a popular lottery game in New Jersey, providing opportunities for players to win millions of dollars with drawings held twice a week — on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Each Pick 6 game ticket costs one dollar per play. For an additional one dollar, players can add the Xtra feature which increases non-jackpot prizes by the multiplier number drawn. Xtra also adds a $2 prize for matching just two of the six numbers drawn. Players get a chance at the Pick 6 jackpot by selecting six numbers from a field of 1 to 49 or they can opt for a Quick Pick.

The next big drawing takes place at 7:56 pm Monday, Oct. 15.

The Pick 6 winning numbers — as well as those for all the other New Jersey Lottery draw games — can be found at Lottery Post's New Jersey Lottery Results page minutes after each drawing.

In the previous Pick 6 drawing held on Oct. 11, 18 players matched 5 of 6 numbers for a $2,567 prize. Three of those tickets were purchased with Xtra, multiplying the prize to $10,268.

The winning numbers for the Thurs., Oct. 11 drawing were 6, 11, 13, 25, 36, and 45. The Xtra multiplier was 4.

In addition to the second-prize winners, 819 ticketholders matched 4 numbers for a $53 prize, and 125 others won $212 each with the addition of Xtra. 15,227 players matched 3 numbers and won $3.00 each, with 1,910 others winning $12 each with the addition of Xtra. 14,766 ticketholders each won $2.00 for correctly matching two numbers with the addition of Xtra on their purchase.

Todd,

It would be nice when you win this, BUT we're going to Borgata for NY Eve on their private jet, so I want it.  Nothing to sneeze @ there.  BTW sent Borgata another email asking them to please put the NJ lotto on their property.  Even put a dig in saying I have to go to a Caesars Property, AC to play NJ lotto.

Wow, that's riding in style!  I agree, it is rather strange that a NJ casino would not have a lottery license.

Comp flight =--$20.00 and NJ hotel tax which isn't that much.  Think jet holds about 40 folks, no TSA, park very close to the terminal.  Glad my roommate got us tickets!

In the back of Bally's they sell NJ lotto tickets as well as three places I know of on the boardwalk; you know I have them all scoped out.

New Jersey keeps on being in the news ever since Carole Hedinger retired as CEO of the New Jersey Lottery. She left good luck behind.

Now it is Todd Northrop, founder and chief bottle washer of Lottery Post and USAMEGA, turn to be a lucky citizen from New Jersey.

I do like the $1.00 per ticket cost for this Pick 6 game.

Need some info from a knowledgeable person. My brother in Ohio bought a 'Willy Wonka' scrathoff ticket and didn't win anything. But they have a potential $1B second chance drawing. He said they ask for a 9 digit number on the ticket and he can't find any 9 digit number anywhere on the ticket. Is it hidden? ? ? Covered over? ? ?

Not much help here, but I do know in KY you have to scratch usually, but not always, the bottom of the ticket and there you have it.  Sometimes here they put the digits in the middle of the ticket.  Also haven't loaded the app yet, but it will put the tickets in the computer for you.

In NJ you pick 6 #'s out of 49 to win the jackpot.  I'm sure that is quite different than your cash 5.  Our Cashball 225 you pick 4 #'s, then a Cashball # to make it hard to win.  Now I'm going to check out your lottery, mine and NJ to see who has the best odds though the games are not the same.

Todd not getting much rest with all these crazy high jackpots and updating the lottery hall of fame lists.  Too bad PB couldn't just be $346 million so one billion dollars would be @ stake.

Jersey Cash 5 is somewhat similar to your Cash 5.  There you pick five numbers 1-43; odds are 1:962,588.

NC Pick five numbers 1-41; odds are 1:749,398

KY used to have a similar gave to the two above, but they added the Cashball.  Over a year ago they changed the payout to $225G for top prize; odds are 1: 1,309,000.

Bleudog101 thanks for responding I do see the method to their madness and i believe to break them down individually would be more helpful to you winning . Here in NC I can get 3 numbers from the 5 then I get bored and leave it alone for awhile . Is there a forum for this particular game to share thoughts ? I think big games are designed to be looked at as a whole and then people get confused as to what will play out .... break them down <-------

Purhaps I should put some changes in it and see what happens. Not enough to retire after split 3 ways and taxes but this JP would put off a lot of pressures.
