TONGANOXIE, Ks. — A paper-jammed Kansas Lottery ticket turned out to be lucky for a couple from Tonganoxie, Kansas.

Michael and Virginia Owens will be celebrating their 43rd anniversary in style next month after winning $22,000 playing 2by2 with the Kansas Lottery. The couple matched both red balls (11 and 18) and both White balls (07 and 23) to win the top prize.

"We play 2by2 almost every day. It's a lot of fun," said Virginia Owens. "We had a free ticket winner, so we went to the store to get a new ticket, and when they went to print the new one, the machine jammed up and crinkled the ticket up."

"The clerk made the comment that tickets that don't print right are lucky," said Michael Owens. "Turns out they knew what they were talking about!"

Virginia Owens didn't check the ticket until she was out grocery shopping the next day.

"I went to the store, and before I started shopping, I thought I would check my tickets. When I checked my ticket, the machine said to take it to the clerk. I just assumed because it was wrinkled up, that it wasn't scanning right," she said.

When the clerk checked the ticket, a claim form came out, and that's when she knew she had a big win.

"I was so excited, I went straight home and forgot to get the groceries," she said.

The couple doesn't know what they're going to do with their winnings just yet.

"We have two kids and five grandchildren, so I'm sure we'll figure something out," said Michael Owens. "Plus I have some vacation time coming up anyway, so we might take a little trip as well."

The winning ticket was sold at Brothers Market at 319 Ridge Street in Tonganoxie.

That happened to me too.  A supercash ticket got jammed in the printer and crinkled up.  Wasn't luck for me.  Unhappy

PartyCongratulations to Michael and Virginia Owens from Tonganoxie, Kansas!

$22,000.00 before taxes. Their tax rate and not millionaire tax rates.

 A pleasant story, Thanks.

l love this part...... " When the clerk checked the ticket, a claim form came out."  Now if only that could implemented for the MM, PB & other games. Imagine you asking the clerk to check your winning ticket, and before a "crooked clerk" could say " sorry not a winner" Angrythe machine spits out a claim form. Big Smile What a precious moment!

Anytime that happens to me I consider it a bad omen. Someone is trying to tell me not to play. Just saying. Embarassed

Pleased to know lady luck shines :)

I've had many opportunities to be told...ohh the machine jammed your ticket cannot be reprinted...sorry about your luck! My state likes taking the money yet..misprints or machine torn tickets are unacceptable for claiming.

I put $1 into the lotto kiosk, then my Keno ticket (in PA), then the computer crashed and rebooted. :)

About 60 seconds later it finally printed my ticket. Not a winner, though. :)
