Louisiana Lottery

A Louisiana man who won a $200,000 jackpot said he had to rescue the winning ticket from the trash after it was thrown away by a family member.

Bryan Cureington, 35, of Monroe told Louisiana Lottery officials that a family member scratched off his $10 Make My Year lottery ticket for him and tossed it in the garbage when they determined it wasn't a winner.

Cureington said he rescued the ticket, purchased from the Muse Food Mart in Monroe, from the trash to double-check it and discovered it was a $200,000 top prize winner.

The lucky winner went home with $142,000 after state and federal tax withholdings.

There's a guy on the you tube who goes dumpster diving for discarded scratch offs and finds winners!

Doubt its me.  I do this daily inside the Pilot store.  One day a well heeled woman was playing over and over again the lottery machine.  There is an ATM right next to it--how convenient.  Anyway I went through all her tickets and there was a $200 winner.  Took it to another store to cash it and this guy says that's my ticket.  You know I told him off, darn liar.

If he had to "double-check" it, why did he have somebody check it in the first place?

Why not just scan it right away after you buy it.

Maybe he had his significant other or a young child scratch it, thought it wasn't a winner, tossed it with a few other non winners in the trash before he was able to double check it. My wife has found a winner on one of mine and vice-versa that we had each missed....I could see the mistake easily happening... good catch, congrats and enjoy Thumbs Up
