California Lottery

A winner has stepped forward to claim his prize after a ticket he bought at a South El Monte, California, liquor store won a $26 million jackpot earlier this month, California Lottery officials announced this week.

Miguel Angel Peraza arrived at the California Lottery’s Inland Empire District Office to claim his prize, California Lottery officials said in a written statement. His city of residence was not released.

The ticket was purchased at Sam’s Liquor, 9660 Garvey Ave. in South El Monte before matching all six numbers in the Aug. 2 SuperLotto Plus drawing, officials said.  The winning numbers in that drawing were 6, 16, 22, 27, and 32, with Mega Ball number 3?.

The store owners will receive a prize of one-half of on percent of the jackpot — $130,000 — for selling the winning ticket.

If Peraza elects the cash payment option, instead of annual payments, the jackpot is worth $15.7 million before federal taxes.

California Lottery officials remind all winners to sign the backs of their tickets in ink, keep them in safe places and contact or visit the lottery’s nearest district office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the drawings to claim their prizes.

1st winner from California was on Oct 23 2013! 6 months after California joining lottery. 2nd winner was on Feb 19,2014, 3rd winner was on March 1st, 2014 and last but not least was won on July 19,2014.... 4 winners since California joined in April 2013....I say more population playing, I know Florida has the 2nd highest playing lottery. There was a 30 million dollar winner from California who won MEGA MILLIONS too. Guess I will play a couple of bucks on each game. Maybe my luck will strike me!

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic but if not, this person won a SuperLotto Plus drawing. SuperLotto Plus is the California lottery.

That was my first thought Prince- but it's possible that this person is thinking about the PB lottery which started in California  in April of 2013 and did have its first winner at the end of the  year..* I think.

That's right Helpmewin- picking up a six pack of Cold Ones and throwing in a ticket or two from the change does the trick....most of the time.

Why do you think we " often" read about some winners misplacing their tickets, they leave them in the glove compartments of their trucks etc  get pretty loaded and weeks later find out that someone bought the winning ticket  at the liquor store they frequent.

l guess the formula to winning is buying alcohol & lottery tickets at the same time . Getting loaded is optional.Big Smile

WOW !

Bought the winner in south El Monte and went all the way to the Inland empire claim office,

I wonder if he used the Lexus lanes of the 91 freeway, he can afford it now. LOL

I almost always buy my lottery tickets from a liquor store. (and I so seldom drink I can almost say I don't drink)  I do it b/c Texas pkg. stores have to be owned by someone who lives in the county where the store is and I'd rather the seller's bonus be given to someone who lives here than go to some out-of-state corporation.
